I have a bunch of these laying around from amps I have had from as far back as 20 years ago. So I put a Groove Tubes 12ax7c in both a Nitro and a Pro Mod to experiment with them. I am biased because this is my all time favorite preamp tube.
Tone? Awesome! More clarity in the gain. It tightened it up a bit more. Everything I liked about both amps gain is now intesified. It takes more time for the gain to come on as the gain knob is turned up which is a big plus for me as it also cleans up the same when you turn your guitar volume down too.
I love this tube in many of the amps I have owned before so no surpise that I would love it in the Splawns.
Anyone else like these tubes or try one?
I am not a fan of the EH tube that came stock in the Nitro To gritty. I do like the JJ preamp tubes that came in the PM ( a bit fuller sounding than the GT preamp tube but not nearly the clarity)
The GT12ax7C adds so much more to both of these amps IMO.
Your thoughts?

What spot did you put the GT? I've got one or two around here somewhere, might put one in my QR.

The GT12ax7c's that I have look exactly like the Shug's that I have which are great tubes and sound great in the Nitro. I thought Scott was using all Tung Sol now. I hate EH pre's. I don't like Tung Sol pre's either but EH's are nasty sounding (bright and brittle when I have tried them).

Exactly IDM. I think the EH sounds brittle and to buzzy. I have a few tung sols lying around that I dont like either. The GT 12AX7C just always works for me.

It would be the preamp tube farthest from the input jack hobbs.
