I have a Mesa 2x12 loaded with sb25s. I keep changing my mind on buying a Splawn cabinet with sb25s. My Mesa cab does not sound bad to me but I have no point of reference with the Splawn cabs.
I believe from all I have read that the Splawn cabs have massive sound and are topic quality. My dilemma is if the Splawn cab is really going to be that much of an upgrade of my Mesa as far as tone is concerned.

Mesa makes some really nice cabs IMO. If the dimensions are similar, then I bet there would not be too much difference.

I prefer my splawn cabs to my mesa cabs...thats why i gig with my splawns and have them at the house and leave my mesa's over at the bassists for when i jam over there.

What do you prefer about the splawn? Is it an apples to apples comparison (ie. a 2x12 vs 2x12, or 4x12 vs 4x12, with the same speakers)? I ask because I have a Mesa 2x12 and 4x12 with the stock v30's. I have read so much about folks not liking the v30's with splawns I makes me want to try something else. But it would be much cheaper to replace some speakers than buy a whole new cab. Unfortunately I have the oversized slant 4x12 which I now would rather have a straight, regular size 4x12.....decisions decisions

Well... I Splawned. I ordered the 2x12 cab yesterday. My Mesa cab that was loaded with SB25s has some issues. The vertical " bracket" that holds the grill cover in place is cracked and so I get all kinds of rumbling sounds that should not be there. The Mesa cab is fixable and I will do so soon. However, I have been playing bigger venues lately and I could use more speakers. I refuse to lug a 4x12 around but stacking two 2x12 cabs is something I have done for years.
Furthermore, the Nitro barely fits on my Mesa cab....well... I should not say barely but it certainly looks strange so for aesthetic reasons a Splawn cab got ordered as well.

I have owned 2 mesa 4x12's which were great but the nitro just didn't jive with the v30's for some reason. It just seemed too bright or brittle or something. I have now collected 4 Splawn 4x12s and a standard 2x12 with a variety of eminence and splawn/eminence speakers all of which sounded great with the Nitro, QR and ProMod. I think it has more to do with the Eminence voice but Splawn cabs are most certainly built as well as or better than any other on the market.

I have a Nitro and a PM and I use a mesa 4 x 12 loaded with govs and man o wars in a x and it sounds great. I have never heard a Splawn cab in person though so I have no ref. The emmy's in the mesa sound killer though....
