Typical drop tuned riffs? Drop tuning is not so typical now a days, seems like the latest & greatest is seeing just how fast one can go up & down the neck while make scales that sound equivalent to my cat walking across my guitar neck all while tuning standard 440 or Drop D at lowest. Drop A# that they use on this record sounds monstrous. I'm very glad they dropped it down a little more on this record. -Brent

That band RED...we shared a bill with them them way back when before they were signed. Back then they were using Zakk Wylde signature Marshall's. We hung out a bit after the show, had some drinks. They were trying their damnedest to pick up some girls at the bar who had no interest in them at all.
They're an...interesting...story, one of those bands that made it because they were "made" to make it, basically told to "play these songs, play them this way, do this move on stage at that point in the song, etc.". They were basically a prepackaged product. They had been working with a producer at that point (around early to mid 2005) to refine their songs, and he'd been rewriting their tracks over a course of 3 years to pitch to labels.
I think they had a different drummer back then. Front man is the same, though back then we made fun of him because he was trying overly hard to do some Disturbed impression.

Had some drinks? Hmmm. I thought they didn't drink, bang groupies, etc. They are on the shelves in Lifeway I think. That's interesting. They have been touring with Breaking Benjamin and stole the tuning Ben uses now. I had heard that they were a project band that a producer in Nashville created and had a huge part in writing their songs. Oh well. They did get a new drummer that actually plays double kick so that is an improvement.

They were drinking Heineken pretty heavily and trying their damnedest to pick up on 3 girls that were there. There was a girl named Sammie and her blond friend that left with us, and they had a hot friend who was completely wasted before the show was even over. She stood up and fell down at least 2-3 times. We asked the girls if she was OK and offered her a ride home, then briefly played babysitter as those guys in RED tried to...let's say "help her." We had drank all of the New Castle they had earlier in the night and the girls ended up buying US drinks (which is ass backwards from how it normally is). But before all of that, they pretty much confirmed what you just said...basically being a project band from a Nashville producer that rewrote and planned everything out from top to bottom. We honestly thought the guys were jerks for the most part. Had no idea they were supposedly a Christian band until we heard they were signed. Sure could have fooled us.

While I don't condone drinking, Jesus made wine, nuff said. But drunkenness is the wrong. The pickin up chicks part is is borderlining of course. It's very simple, more Christians are willing to listen to watered down crap so a lot of artists try that scene just because it's easier. And they don't have a right to. I even like Red because of Splawn/orchestration, but the age of REAL christian bands is long gone. 7 years in the Christian scene and I have yet to see any Christian bands that don't talk smack and backstab, drink, curse, ect.

You know I see a lot of this at the venue where I work as Police security when they have hardcore or sold out shows. It is supposed to be an all Christian band concert venue. On a Friday or Saturday night there is a line of cars with parents dropping their teenage children off and feeling safe about them being there. #1 since they have me working there from time to time and #2 the bands that play there are supposed to be Christian or clean lyrically to have a safe positive place for the teenagers to hang out. There is no alcohol or smoking. The problem I see is it has a built in guaranteed audience and decent pay for original "Christian" bands. The problem is I would say 7 out of 10 bands that play there have no intentions of being a true Christian band and take the profanity and hate lyrics out to play the shows there. I have seen these bands at other venues and they are totally different. Where I have an issue is either be one or the other. I don't have any issue with either way. It is a free country and I never try to force Jesus down anyones throats. On the other hand if you are going to talk the talk then let your actions back it up. In short i can't stand fakes. All of the projects I have been invovled in the songwriting/lyrics they have all been clean, somewhat positive, and sometime have a Christian message. I never list or post the songs as Christian for that reason. Jeremy from Seventh Day Slumber posts on here. They are a good band and just remade praise and worship songs on their new album. Their lead singer also gives his testimony at the shows and gives a message of hope to those who came to the show. That is a Christian band. They have my listening ear and respect for standing their ground. Ya know I have even mentioned in my looooooooooong conversation with Morgan Rose from Sevendust that it would be great if on their next album they did not have F#$ck and motherF$%ker and any other words that children should not hear. As a father himself I think it did make him pause for a moment. I told him they are by far my favorite band and have been for many years, but I can't listen to them with my children present. If there is no cussing on their next album then you know who to blame. If there is oh well at least I tried. Just to clear things though and a thought. How many motherf$ck this and mootherf$%ck that songs do you hear on the radio? Hmmm not many. Radio edits!

I agree with all of that. I don't understand the "Sunday morning" Christian types. I'm a believer that if you're going to devote yourself to something, you do it completely, not just when it's convenient. I'm not the most religious person you'll ever meet, but our bass player is. I drink, have no probs at all with it. Not nearly as much now at 31 as I did at 21, but I still have my share. I don't pick up girls at shows - I've been married for 4 years with a kid due in a few months...but I have no prob being the wingman for the others... Sevendust are a cool band. My old band was going to play with them down in North Carlolina at...Zakk's maybe? But our vocalist had to go to NY the week of the show.

wow what a topic, I met red when they first started, Now look at them and many of the rest, one of my best friends is from the band Messiah Prophet( remember them) He said nothings changed their were christian bands doing the half foot in the world half in heaven deal back then too.I am a professing Christian, far from perfect, saved in 06 in a truck stop parking lot, lived fast, od'ed 3x, girls, drugs, booze, out of control life before I met Christ, he saved me and my marriage. There are so many bands love the music but why? why all the cursing, even non-christian bands dating way back never cursed, now it seams like thats the best lyrically they can do? pathetic! There is a time n place to have some drinks, never getting drunk, but thats i guess is the role model we have, so dont wonder why the world is jacked up, dont wonder why people rape, victimized, murder, all this is not new under the sun, but bands dont need to add fuel to the fire already. I play in a hard rock/metal band, we are all saved by christ, everyday I pick up my cross n do the best to my ability to walk the talk........try it sometime, its not as easy as some might think. ps... Take the plank out of your own eye before you try to take a speck out of someone elses, its easier to see!
