I have been looking at the Splawn Competition for some time now, I need a new amp cause my old Laney AOR is on it's last leg. I'm looking for tones from Hendrix and Clapton to early VH boston and on into some hair metal and higher gain stuff, it also needs to do a good crunch I play at church alot.
so basically what I'm asking is, Does it do the Plexi thing good? or should I look at a superstock or something else?

Welcome! Both will do plexi well. The Comp w/ it's 3 gears will be much more versitile. The S.S. is less saturated and compressed sounding than the Comp. The S.S. does get plenty angry but not to the point of what the Comp will do in 2nd or 3rd gear. There is also the question of whether or not you need a dedicated clean channel or not too. I'd say go for the Comp but you'd probably be happy either way. Let us know which way you go.

I don't NEED a clean channel, I have a laney AOR and the "clean" channel is basically non existant I think I'll go comp and get a 2x12 with big blocks?
sound like a good idea?

Sounds like a winner. You should be able to cover tons of sonic ground w/ that setup.

I find the Big Blocks to be quite aggressive/up front kind of speakers. The Comp is up front/aggro also. I found the Comp with the BBs to be too aggressive for my liking - but that's probably a personal thing. I have not tried the Small Blocks, but you might want to check out Windsen's speaker demo thread. I think it is stickied in one of the forums. It's all a matter of personal preference, but just wanted to put that out there. If any Comp brothers have tried the Small Blocks, please shout out as I'd like to hear about them, too.

I just listened to windsen's clips. I actually think I like the big block more, sounds like a bigger full speaker, I'm not sure what it would sound like with a Comp though cause he's using a nitro
EDIT: I'll give you a quick list of what I'm liking the most so far.
SB25 combo SB65/BBL SB25/SB65
I also still really like he BBL BBL idea
any other suggestions

I'd be interested in hearing that SB65/BBL or SB25/SB65 combo myself. The dual BBs are going to be very aggressive.

I think my favorite so far is the SB65/BBL combo. I think I might do that.

My Quick Rod works great for me at church and everywhere else I play. It does all of the tones that I want. I am sure that the competition will work great for you especially if you do not need a clean channel, or if you have another amp that you will be using for clean. I do not use my QR's clean channel to often anyways, though it is nice to have. I usually back of on my guitars volume knob to clean things up. I only have two power tubes installed in my QR and I run it at the half power/50 watt setting with a 2x12 cabinet. I never get lost in the mix with my Splawn. I love the Solo button on my foot switch a lot. Sometimes the band at church really starts building up a song and they are getting into it and getting LOUD. It is nice to be able to hit a button and make my solo really pop out above a loud band that is really worshiping the Lord with all that they have.
