So at some point, I'm looking to replace the speakers in my 4x12. I'm strongly considering the Splawn SB 25, as I'm looking for a higher wattage greenback-inspired speaker. I have followed the various posts around here, but am curious if SB25 users are still really digging these speakers.
Another question...how is the high end? I'm all about having high end, but I can't stand any added grit/sizzle. I like clear/clean/smooth high end. Will the SB25 give me that?

I also don't like piercing high end, SB25's are really balanced speakers, a lot less harsh compared to the vintage 30's I used to have and they don't have that upper midrange thing too. They're very ballsy and thick with good bottom end too which doesn't get muddy or farty.

Would you guys be inclined to mix the SB 25's with something else, or no? In other words, do they stand up well on their own?

I have a Big Block in my Rivera amp and from what I can tell there the mids are more hollow and subdued and it is a very clear sounding speaker. the SB25's are more gritty but still with clarity. I would use the SB's on their own because I think they cover all the ground well by themselves.

I have SB's in a Marshall 1960A cab. Got rid of my V30's for em and have used em in the studio a while, incredible so far! They are very very warm and smooth. They mic up like nobody's business too. You simply can't make em sound bad.

Hey guys, can you give me a brief idea of what the SB25s sound like? Currently I have celestion 75s in my Splawn 412 and it sounds great. Its tight, aggressive and cuts through no problem.
How do the SB25s compare to the Celestion 75s?
Thanks

I have some celestion green backs in an avatar 2-12 and although I have never done and a/b comparison ( usually one cab is at church ) I can't tell the difference in tone . I know this isn't comparing them to the g12 75 but if you have ever heard green backs this might help.

Here's a stupid question. Does Scott just sell speakers without a cab? i looked at the online store and couldn't find them.

I've played my QR through 4X12 cabs with Vintage 30's, Greenbacks and SB's. I like the SB's the best outta the three. The Vintage 30 loaded cab was mine and I sold it after breaking in my Splawn with the SB's. The Greenback loaded cab belongs to one of the other guys in the band and basically sits around the studio collecting dust. I would use it once in a while If I didn't feel like hauling my Splawn cab back to the studio if I had taken it home after a gig. Now I make sure the Splawn cab goes back to the studio every time so I can always play through it. I just dig the SB's!
