with tung-sol el34bs biased to around 65% (32mA w/ 500V plate voltage):
resonance - 9-10:00 presence - noonish bass - 10:00 mids - 1-2:00 treble - 10:00 gain - 2-3:00 OD1 volume - sweet spot is above 8:30 or so. i find the nitro really needs to be cranked to perform at it's best, even more so than the QR.
i sometimes clean boost with a maxon od-9 (drive - off, level - 1:00, tone - noon). if i do boost, ill bring down the amp's gain to around 1 or 2:00. kick in OD2 for some more oomph. i don't really like to use OD2 for rhythm work w/o a boost.
note that your nitro will have a different gain taper than your old QR. it's got a much wider sweep and doesn't max out as earlier as the QR's old taper.

I wish it had the 3 gears on it, I can already tell I am gonna miss that feature.

the 3 gears is a great feature on the QR b/c they each have there own character going on. you don't get that with the nitro. however, the resonance knob on the nitro can kind of do something similar. turned all the way off, the amp is really raw and punchy...very QR like, but you'll have to watch where your bass is dialed in b/c it can get crazy. turning up the resonance compresses things a bit and adds a slight sponginess to everything. i find that depending on where the resonance is set, i tend to readjust the rest of the EQ accordingly.

my best advice for the going from the qr to the nitro is to be patient with the nitro and really tweak it. it really is a different animal than the qr. it feels and dials in differently. it took me a little while to get used to it, but it's a great amp. give it a shot. in the end, you may just be more of a qr guy.
