Well... I've flip-flopped between saving for the Nitro and the QR for a while now... and seeing as i'm getting a job in a few, i'll only be a grand away from owning one of these babies. Thing that nabbed me was that the nitro can do the Brown sound stuff (not as good as the QR, but I don't want the exact tone!) and the more modern stuff. I've been told its like an extremely agressive JCM800 with more bass. I like that. I'm a real british voiced tone guy, so I really really like British voiced High-gain. Seems like splawns are the only amps doing it well. I play my own genre, termed Psychadelic Garage Thrash, and am currently using a Peavey Classic 30. (I was thinking I should just AB/Y the Splawn and the Peavey, I was actually thinking of going with a Super-Comp and using the Peavey's cleans... Good idea, bad idea?
I'm probably going to go with a white plexi style head with gold piping and a gold faceplate- Randy Rhoads style!
I'm just wondering... KT88s or EL34s? what would you guys suggest? I was thinking of doing the EL34s and modding to KT88s if I ever decide to change my mind, but I'm not sure what the exact tonal differences are.

if you want brown, the superstock is probably what you should be looking at. I think that in 50 watt mode with EL34's would do the trick.
Nitro has very little brown in comparison. Not loose enough or saggy enough.

No you see I DON'T need brown, I want the versatility that the Nitro has, because I play modern/classic heavy metal, yet I don't want one of these 5150s or ENGLS due to them not being british voiced enough. How unique do they sound in comparison to other modern amplifiers?

they sound like really heavy marshall jcm800's only smoother with a much more powerful low end and prominent lower midrange.
