I've been reading around here after being out of the loop most of the year. I see that Scott is now shipping the Nitros with Tung Sol EL34Bs instead of the JJ KT77s. My amp has all JJ pre and KT77s in the power amp.
Overall, I like the tone, but of course, I'm just wondering what else is out there. I don't want to lose any of that low end I have with the amp, maybe tighten it up a bit. Got to be really warm with a musical midrange and overtones, and smooth on the high end. Whatcha think? I was leaning towards either the Tung Sols or the Ruby EL34BSTRs.
In the pre-amp, I was thinking Rubys? Aren't these just re-labeled 9th gen Chinese tubes?
I have no idea what to put in V1 or V4. Tung Sol? I want all my gain and I need the cleans to stay where they are or improve.
Also, what kind of a rating should I be looking for on power tubes?
I play melodic hard rock and also do a lot of lead work. Clean headroom is a must!

Make it simple and go Tung Sol EL34b's and Tung Sol pre's. I have ran just about every tube out there and they were my favorite. Very musical, tight, clear, good low end and round highs. I didn't find the 9th gens reliable or better than the Tung Sol's. They also cut the mix very well but without a trace of harshness. I have EH KT88's running now but still slightly favor the Tung Sol EL34b... Just my two cents.

I ran Tung Sols in a Dual Rec a while back and remember it really cutting down on the gain a lot. Don't really want that, has that been your experience at all with the Nitro?
