I recently bought a Marshall 2061x to scale back my quest for monsterous tone. I had it for about a week...cranked it full blast every which way I could and realized - I need GAIN! So I decided to amp shop once again. I've had a few amps in my lifetime: Gorilla =) at age 13, Marshall Combo at age 15, Laney 50 Watt Pro-Tube Lead at 16, Laney VH100R at age 24, Bogner Uberschall at 27, Budda Superdrive 45 II at 3O'ish and was on a search for a pure tone machine. I had researched Splawn before buying the Budda, but was leary of buying an amp w/o hearing what it could do. I was pretty sure it sounded like armageddon in a box a la Rich Ward's tone. So today I was debating on getting a Mesa Stiletto Deuce, a THD Flexi, or a Mesa Roadster (pretty much since I doubted I'd find a Splawn locally. Well as luck would have it - I returned the Marshall 2061x and browsed around the GC showroom and there sitting atop a Mesa cab was a pristine looking Splawn Nitro in black tolex with silver piping (Plexi-Style). I cranked it to 2 and the guys in the store were telling me to turn it down but people in the store that heard it were flocking over asking "what amp is that - it sounds incredible." After a few Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment riffs, and the intro to Opeth's Blackwater Park - I was sold. The store had it priced very agressively for such a gem of an amp. And ut the door I went - a new Splawn owner. Thank you Scott Splawn for making such a killer amp - and thanks YouTube vids for giving me some idea of what this beast sounds like. I am going back tomorrow to geat a Diezel cab to sit under the Nitro. God Bless Mr. Splawn!
Regards, Justin

hahahaaa GC doesn't know what to do with those. There was an old pro-mod at the one up here, $700! I came back later that night to buy it and it was gone.

Wow! A Nitro in GC? That's funny stuff! You can really snag some good deals on things there sometimes because they don't know what they have. I have made 3x my money reselling things I bought there. What was the price you got if you don't mind?

Dude, i remember some guy up there at the store telling me about that. Are you talking about the GC on Mayfield RD? I was in there talking to one of the employee's there and I brought up Splawn and he told me how they had one there and it was gone in like a day. Pretty sad how you can miss out on some deals like that.

This GC is in Houston TX. I think they said some guy had purchased it, then broguth it back to trade it for a guitar. So I happened to stumble across it. I was going back to return my 2061x and was going to look at buying a Stiletto Deuce or a Roadster. I will try to take some pics to show you all what it looks like. Was able to get a good deal on the Diezel 4x12 too. So it's a pretty mean looking half stack. If I knew how to get a video on youtube I'd be looking to post one, as it sounds pretty unreal.

The Nitro is an awesome amp. If I wasn't so in love with the Quick Rod I'd pick one up. Who knows maybe I'll run across a deal like this at the guitar center here? Wishful thinking never hurts. :-)

I think it may have been $799 now that I think of it. But it was a steal. The headbox was a little beat up, maybe it got dropped. I didn't know about that til after it sold. But it sounded great...played through it for about 1/2 hour...

Since Im not going to be able to make it to the convention this year either.

PM me if you wanna hear it. It needs new tubes but it still sounds really good.

Hey stompbox - nice man I see you have a gig at the Cove. what a crazy place. I'll have to check you guys out...maybe I'll stop out at the haunted house. Pandora's Box In Mentor ..... it is going to be 35 degrees outside ! I dusted the rust off of my Neil Zaza Cort guitar for this gig just so I could avoid damaging my LP or my PRS. I want to play my Nitro but I think my Dual Rec is going to have to make this trip. I live in Willoughby on Lost Nation so we are practically neighbors. Which QR version do you have ? I am seriously thinking of placing an order soon but I would love to try one out before I did. The Nitro has me really impressed but I'd like to hear first hand the difference in voicing and saturation.

Small world - we are just about neighbors man. That sounds like a "cool" gig! Yeah, if your LP is anything like mine it reacts badly to quick temperature changes. No need to ruin the high priced axes. I think I have what they call version 4? It's the newest version I believe... newest clean channel. It really needs some new tubes but I've been broke lately. I'd like to hear the Nitro as well in person, so we should set something up. Funny, I used to have a 50 watt Rectoverb before I got the Splawn...I was ok with it for a while but got sick of the "flatness" of it.
