I just sold the Rivera cab I had and want to place an order asap with Scott for a 2x12.
I'm still undecided if I should go oversized or standard. Volume is the main issue here. I want to be able to turn up the Pro Mod a little more and have a respectable volume for smaller/quiet clubs.
Speakers...? What combo for the best efficiency (again with volume) and best tone? I want a nice open tone, not compressed or too bassy. Keep in mind the Pro Mod is 120 watts. Should I do a mix of 2 speakers?

I think the volume is about the same on both cabs. As for speakers I assume you wanna go with the splawn block speakers? If so definetly go with the SB25's, I have the 25 and 65 in my cab and the 25 is natural sounding speaker with an open raw tone.

I wonder if it will be a problem if both speakers are rated for 55 watts = 110 watts and my Pro Mod is 120 watts? I wouldn't turn the master volume past 10:00 most likely so do you think that would blow them?

I'm not an expert on speakers but I don't think it'd harm them unless you crank it, you should ask sonicexplorer.

That's cutting it close, you really don't want to push speakers that hard. The peaks on tube amps are a lot higher than the nominal rated power. This is why people often warn against running a quad of Greenbacks with a 100 Watt tube amp.
10:00 on a Splawn is pretty loud, that would be risky in my opinion with a pair of SB25's. I'd recommend running in 50 Watt mode, that would definitely be safe - and I doubt you'd notice much of a tone or volume issue for your particlular application.
You can always ask Scott but I suspect he'll probably relay similar sentiments.

+1 on having to be careful w/ the SB25's under those conditions. Which is too bad because they have great tone.

I have never owned a 2x12 other than that Rivera cab that had 2 60 watt V30's so I have little experience with it. I could run half power and probably be alright like you said, though I like the sound much better on full power. I think I will call Scott today.

OK, screw it, I ordered my cab. I'm too impatient when I have money to burn. I went with the standard size cab, two SB25's, black tolex, full plexi silver piping, and the large check b&w grill cloth. Josh at Splawn said they have ran every amp through the SB25's and there are no problems running the Pro Mod into those speakers. Hopefully he's right! I always loved the large check, old Marshall grill cloth so that will be cool. I stuck with the standard size because they said teh OS has a more bluesy feel and I want something more versatile. The only thing I am undecided on is having the option of a removable back panel to have the choice of an open back cab. Josh is checking to see if they can still do this.

Good!the standard cab is killer! I got...or had a friend who had the oversized and it lacked bottom end!(with diff. speaker combos) My 212 standard kept right up with Chrismac 412! No kidding,no much difference at all. So I opted out of buying a 412. And I have plenty of bottom end. Hope this helps

I definitely want some low end preserved so I think I made the right choice. Who knows, I might end up selling my Bogner 4x12 and just using te 2x12 for all my gigs.

Good choice! Here's my 4 X 12 Hey fretburner, I can't see the pic (probably because it's blocked). Can you PM or email me the pic file (jpeg, gif, etc). so Photobucket isn't blocked?
