I got in a set of these rated at 43. They are skinny bottle russians basically. First impression..........Eh. Second impression......Eh. Third impression.......they sound just like the set of Mesa EL34s I tried in it. Probably the same tubes to be honest. I guess I'm a big bottle fan. They were not what I thought they would be honestly. So far I prefer the Rubys or Shuguang EL34bs. I'm still going to try a set of KT88s when I can find some with a decent rating.

man i love the tung-sol el34bs in my nitro, much more than the ruby's. it's all personal preference i guess. the ruby's and shuguangs are the same tube i believe. what did you not like about the tung-sols? i loved that they had a bit more complexity in their mid range. i also found them to be a bit more focused in the low end. but the ruby's are GREAT tubes.

Snap, you try SED's yet?
Windsen, where do you think the SED's land in all this?

the SEDs have the mid complexity like the Tung-Sols. maybe a bit more breakup and spongier feel. the tung-sols are kind like in b/t the SEDs and the Ruby's.

They sounded kinda thin to me. The lows didn't really kick in until I turned it up a bit. The Rubys and Shugs just sound more open and full to me. I could live with the tung sols if I didn't know what the rubys and shugs sound like. Tung sols are definintely better than JJKT77s, but just don't have the umph the Chinese tubes have IMO. A set of lower current tung sols may sound differently though. I try and get tubes rated somewhere in the middle. I'm testing in drop B also so my opinions may vary from those in standard tuning. I haven't tried SEDs in the Nitro. I don't know much about them and haven't used them in previous amps. I'm sure someone on this board has tried them. I can tell you that if there isn't a "revelation" thread of them in a Splawn on here then I would say they probably don't sound as good as other tubes.
