Well, after about two hours I'm not sure if I'm keeping the amp. I really hate to say this but it's missing something. But it has something also. There is a high mid frequency that is always on top of the sound.
The clean is not getting it for me. It's just not very warm and sparkley. I tried different guitar and I can get a ok clean sound, but not really good. If the clean was better I think I could live with this amp.
All of the crunch and gain (1,2,&3rd gear) all sound good and I think very versitile.
I got the splawn 2X12 but my oversized Bogner sounds better (V30 & G12H30).
Overall, this amp is better than a whole bunch of high end quality amps. I'm just not sure if its for me.
Any suggestions on tweaking the clean channel?

Well, take this for what it's worth since less than 5 percent of my playing time is spent on the clean...but I find that by engaging the OD2 button while on the clean channel brightens it up a touch. I also hit the front end of the clean with a touch of chorus in the songs I need the clean for, so again, take my advice for what it's worth.
But hey, not amp is for everyone. Oh, and personally...I REALLY like the Earcandy Buzzbomb 2x12 better than any other cab I've played the QR through...but I haven't tried a Splawn cab. The Buzzbomb is loaded with a V30 and Man-o-War. I really like the Eminence speaker a lot...I might put another one in the cab.

I said the same thing the day I got mine. It had to grow on me a little. What kind of amp were you playing on before?

I also have a Triamp, Engl Blackmore & XTC 101b. Of the three you mentioned, the gain structure of the Splawn is better for my taste, with the Blackmore a close second. (I never cared for the 101b) Of the three you mentioned...if the cleans are vital to your playing style, you'd probaby be better suited one of them over the Splawn.

That was my second choice to the Splawn. I have a Pro Mod arriving on Tuesday that I traded my Rivera KHR for. What type of music do you play?

I sold my quickrod after owning it for about 2 weeks. It was the older version without the seperate EQ for the clean. Though its a great sounding modded marshall type of sound I was hoping it would have been a little closer to early VH which it is kind of moddled after. Some claim it does is it right on and some like myself think its in the ballpark at best. There are tons of amps out that do great 80's metal sounds with that tight overdrive as the splawn does but I guess I bought it expecting to plug in and hear that classic "Unchained" intro and to my ear really didn't. The clean sound is fair not bad but nothing anyone looking for a killer clean sound would probably accept. The other thing was the volume seemed to be very touchy in the low register. It was either whisper volume and then spikes up considerably just etching the vol up a tad. This may not be a problem for most people but for me being a bedroom player.... Still a monster of an amp but the botique amp market is bonkers these days. Just 100's of amps out there.
