Wondering what the Splawn Salty Dogs think...
What amp/head compliments the QR for a more "modern" high gain sound... I know the Nitro just flat out Kills, but is the Nitro really just the mythical 4th gear or is the voicing and additional saturation different to the point that the Nitro and QR are really a good compliment to each other? I have looked at the Vids, it's just tough to tell without running them side by side in person...
I tried a Dual Rec a couple of days ago for giggles and found myself backing off the Fizz of the modern setting and dialing in a tone that had the sales guys say i should try a Marshall, kinda funny...

Diezel Einstein.
Our rythem player has one...the two together are absolutely devastating. His has a tigher and more modern high fidelity type sound and mine has the bigger lower midrange and more snarl going on. They compliment each other really well.
Amazing combo if you've got the $$

I had a quickrod and now I own a Nitro. The Nitro is what the quickrod was not. It still has the Splawn tone no doubt. The best way to describe the Nitro to me is it has more grind or saturation. Not more gain. It is also like having a mid sweep knob on a quickrod. The mids are lower, but it still has the same cut as a quickrod. I don't think it is for everyone. I would not recommend it to someone looking to do hair metal or emulating EVH. It excels at drop tuned rock/metal and sounds good in standard also. It's not a loose amp either. You can however loosen it up a bit by turning down the resonance knob. As far as complimenting each other they are a perfect match. Compliment a Splawn with another Splawn. You don't want to trash the quickrods tone with a Mesa fizzafrier or a honky Marshall. GET A NITRO!

uhhh the resonance knob spongies up the sound (at least mine does). Set the amp to 50 watts, set the bass around 10~11 o'clock and the resonance at 1~2 o'clock, dime the mids and that's that!
For tight palm mutes, I just roll the resonance all the way off, bass at 3 o'clock (or higher) and pull the mids back to around 1~2 o'clock and it's super tight and the low end still booms.

Thanks! I love turning on the lights in the studio and have that beast sitting there waiting to be cranked up. I just got my empty Splawn cab in today from FedEx according to the wife. It will also have a silver Splawn logo. The cab is all black to match the Nitro of course. Wait time for the cab..............a day less than two weeks! Thanks Scott! Now where is the G12K 100s I'm going to put in it? HMMMMMM

Heh... funny you'd say that. I recently changed from a Plexi look on my QR to the head type you have for your Nitro.... must admit that part of it was just wanting to see the tubes glow.
