I like the Eminences much better. I have a Splawn-modded Marshall 1960A with Celestions and it's a little harsh on the top end in comparison. Will probably end up switching at least 2 of them out.

yessir - same thing happened when I modded my Mesa cab. It actually has practical, usable sounds now.

you said you have an oversized mesa cab or the traditional? I had an oversized one and it sounded bad bad bad.....the triple recto wasn't the tightest amp to begin with and the oversized cab made nothing but low end mud

The one I have is oversized, and it did have a lot of mud. The first thing I did was get my Rectifier modded by Voodoo amps. Best thing I ever did for that amp. I also have an old Hughes & Kettner fuzzy cab which it just sounded amazing through after the mod.
Then I heard about Splawn through a friend and began investigating their cabs. After buying the QR and the modded Marshall cab, I really wanted to do something about the Recto cab. Tried to sell it 3 times on Ebay and it didn't go, so I had a couple of conversations with Scott and he pointed me in the right direction(s). I switched out 2 of the V30's for Eminence Man O Wars and applied some Auralex panels to the inside of the back panel. Also put some acoustic foam around the bottom half of the inside of the cab. Now it screams. Tight bottom end; very musical all the way through the sound spectrum. There are pictures of the mod posted here in the Gear Talk section under "New Project".

nice, scott!
little surprised that you couldn't unload it on evil bay..normally all things mesa get scabbed up on that site..
anywho, sweet that you could mod it yourself! I wouldn't have the balls to do that..lol

It really worked out well - I was going to take a pretty big loss if I sold the cab, but thanks to Scott it is actually studio worthy now.

I myself being a past splawn QR owner find it a little strange that there have been quite a few QRods (especially the newer ones) on ebay over the last few months. When I was looking for one there was hardly any and even the splawn modded marshalls were not to easy to come by. Obviously without being able to try one in person I think lots of people are buying them on the hype and like splawnfan said maybe they find it to powerful or just not their cup of tea. Right now the botique amp market is haywire! Everyday I hear of another new amp the surpasses this amp and so on...... Needless to say the QR a great amp and I parted with mine mostly cause of the power. Its not very freindly at low volumes. I also was a little dissapointed in that I don't think it sounds as close to early VH as many people claim. I had the older QR without the gears and maybe the new version is even better. If I was in the market for a new amp the only amp I would probably look into over the splawn in that price range is a new amp by Aiken called a Corsair. Randall makes some incredible sounding amps...

I also noticed alot more Splawns on Ebay these days, but I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's got more to do with how many are out there; as more people get them new, more people will be selling them used for various reasons. Have you seen how many Dr. Z amps are on Ebay? Tons.
I wish I saw more Splawn 4x12's, I want one. I may sell some stuff and order one, but I'd love to find a used one locally.

Ive seen everything on ebay...bogners, diezels...supposedly the mother of all amps.... guitar players are fickle =) besides, what do I care if other people don't like it..I do, so let them sell away..lol
