hey guys, I've got a straight 412 Splawn cab that has an X patter of 2 Eminence Govs and 2 Eminence Man-O-Wars.
Sometimes I find the Govs to have too much mids... to a point where it becomes honky sounding with my Nitro.
Anyone out there with a Splawn cab or any 412 cab that has 4 ManOWar speakers? if so, what do you think of it overall compared to other cabs?
Cheers

Hmmm. You should be able to fairly painlessly disconnect your two Govs, make the necessary ohm switch, to hear just the MOWs on their own.

For what kind of music? If you're doing agressive, modern, drop-tuned metal then a quad of Manowars may work really well. They have a strong edge, tight bottom, are somewhat scooped and can handle a lot of power well without breakup. If you are looking for more of a 70's or even 80's type of tone, then I wouldn't suggest a quad of Manowars.

Thanks guys!
Sonic.. The music style I play right now is more industrial metal. Think Ministry & Rammstein type stuff. The tone I like to play with isnt scoop or harsh at all. I love my mids but at the same time I like that aggressive tone that cuts through.
Will a quad of the MoW speaker in the cab make the sound too scooped to a point of being thin and harsh?

Too scooped and harsh are subjective aspects, I'd rather not try to guess what the results will be from your perspective. It will sound at least a little bit scooped and harsh, that's the nature of the Manowar's frequency curve, but that may be exactly what you are looking for. One person's harsh top end is another person's "cut" or "sparkle". One person's scooped is another person's "smooth".
Know what I mean, Vern? LoL

LoL Understandable my friend Maybe I should try adding 2 MoW speakers in there and see how it sounds. Then try a pair of Govs in there and see how it sounds. My other question is.. whats the difference between the MoW and a Celestion 75? any idea?

How long have you owned the cab/speakers (are they new)? Both my Splawn cabs are starting to sound different/better the longer I own them. They were pretty bright at first but they are sounding much warmer as those Emi's break in. Thee SB/BB combo is really nice also but I dig the Mow/Gov combo in my 4x12's also.

hey idm..
I've owned the cab for less than a year. Buts its an older cabinet. its seen its fair share of use for sure. It wasnt even purchased new by the person I purchased it from.
I recently (last week) put 4 celestion 75s in there and to be honest, i am likeing it alot more. the highs got tamed a bit and the lowend was still tight and overall tone is aggressive.
I'll keep the 75s in there to see how they sound for a while.
Cheers

I tried my Nitro though quite a few speakers and also listened to tracks with the different speakers and found the cheaper Texas Heats really handled drop B and C better than any. Especially with high volumes. They stay cleaner and more articulate longer. They have quite a bit of bite to them, but are not honky, fart out, cry, weep, burp, vomit, spontaneously combust, or anything else. They have a good woody tone to them when palmmuting also. Super tight but full bass repsonse. I think a better balanced speaker overall. They sound alot like a high power SB25 with a tad more bite if you have heard SB25s. Of course this is my opinion. You can hear them on this track www.netmusicians.org/?search=snappinnecks . They are in a Avatar contemporary 4X12 that has almost the exact same dimentions as my new Splawn cab. Another speaker you may want to look into is the Celestion G12K100. I'm putting four in my empty Splawn cab. They are similar to the Heats, but have a slightly bigger tighter bass. The highs are rolled off a bit so they aren't as bright as the Heats. I may X pattern the two cabs with Heats and G12K100s. Just another option for ya since you play in drop.
