Mike, just to clarify - I think Jon is an amazing player...best playing on a Dokken record since George. I can't play like that...and I agree it takes talent and discipline to do what he's doing. But Lynch is a legend. Tough to swallow what Don is saying just based on Lynch's playing, not Jon's...that's all. At least Don can get back to ruling the world on guitar again, now that Lynch isn't around LOL

Yes, agreed. BTW, no offense was taken on this end at all. And yes, George is a legend, which is why so many try to emulate his style.

my bandmate went to see Bach/Dokken and Poison in L.A last week.
He said the splawns sounded amazing in the mix, and that he counted 12 splawn cabinets! haha
He also said that there is no way Lynch could play on the same level Jon was playing. He doesn't have a bias either 1) he isnt a dokken fan 2)isnt a lynch fan 3) isnt a jl fan
I don't know what kind of chops Jon has, but im very curious to see/hear! im taking my bandmates word for it because he's also trained very well and knows his shizzle
hizzle
I love the songs Lynch wrote in Dokken, and at the end of the day I prefer the better song writer. I dont care who has better chops.

Agreed. Jon's playing is amazing. The Splawn's are kicking butt. He runs a unique configuration which is why his tone is so fat.

Funny, the Dokken concert in Spokane kinda steered me to Splawn. Jon's playing was flawless - and his tone incredible. I've been trying to figure it out since. BTW, an interview I read he says he uses marshall heads with SED tubes rated 43 or something like that. I'm trying to remember/find what rackmount processor he likes. edit: ah ha, here it is; dokken.net/dokken/jonlevin/jonlevininterview.html

Might be an older interview. He talks about the "new" Metallica song: "St. Anger."
Still, I really liked the sound of the new CD.

Yes, that is an old interview, circa "Hell To Pay" release. BTW, Splawns are not on the Lightening Strikes, though Jon's tone is wicked nonetheless.

Back in the 80's My band at the time opened for Johns band Devias on several occasions(we are from the same home town) he was a monster of a technical player then and very much a home town hero. He really does compare favorably to GL. And I am a huge Lynch fan as well. I have no doubt that he is still more technical than Lynch ever was. Lynch was always more of a soulful player with chops where as Levin comes from a younger generation of post Yngwie Eddie Randy chops was par for the course.

My friend just saw dokken at jim thorpe pa friday, no splawns all marshall? why? Not sure. I just saw Jon Levin two weeks ago and he was playing a Quick Rod. Got a chance to talk to him a bit, and of course we talked about the amp. He loves it. He was filling in on guitar for Carlos Cavazo and the band was The Hollywood All Stars. So... I didn't see him play with Dokken. He did have a Marshall cab and a Marshall back-up head, but he was rockin' the QR and sounded awesome.

Hi David. I love my Splawn. I had a few 2210 (thats the 100W channel switching model). This amp destroys that. I have a Quick Rod. The Nitro is similar but tuned a little deeper. Either way you can't lose.

Hi Jon, I believe I am going to order a Splawn Nitro. I know that it is based on the head I have used for 20 some years, the JCM 800 "2210". I understand that you now use Splawn. Any data, recomendations or does and don'ts would be greatly appreciated. Much respect and thank you.

I know that you are going to love your Quick Rod and I can't wait to hear some clips of you playing through it. As I said before Dokken is still my all time favorite band. This is really cool to see what Jon had to say about Splawn amps. I have never heard an amp that I like better and I have been playing for 30 years.
