I have seen dozens of threads on speaker choices for the QR and Nitro and none for the PM! I hear all this talk of everyone hating V30's with their QR's and Nitros but I have been using only them for years with my Pro Mod and I don't see much of a problem. When I start reading these threads though it makes me think I may not getting the best tone out of my amp by using V30's but then I say don't fix what isn't broken. The only other speaker I tried with this head were GT-75's and I hated them. I would love to try some SB-65's or even Greenback type speakers. What are the PM users here playing? Any other V30 fans?

I am using reverend all tone 1250's in one cab. GT 75's in another (Marshall 1960a) and manowars and patriots in an x pattern in a recto cab (slant). I actually like the Celestions with the promod though too. I have an old promod without the gears though so maybe that has something to do with it?

Which one do you like best and what are the Reverand speakers like? I never liked GT 75s with any amp so that is just my taste I guess. I don't know if the older PM has much of a difference to it unless maybe you have the Mercury Magnetics transformer. I can't see them sounding too much different though

I would have to say the reverend naylors sound the best. they are extremely tight sounding and the low end is deep and very precussive. The speakers dont really break up at all.
I have the Heyboer tranny;s in this head. it has two inputs and no gears. The clean Channel does not have the separate gain and has the mids pot in it. It is the head just before the gears were introduced. I love it!
I have useed the Reverend speakers with my SLO heads and A few Rectos, Marshalls... 5150's. They sound great with everything I plug into it. They are modeled after the old Jenson speaker design that many old Fenders came with. If you ever get a chance to pick them up on ebay or somewhere do not hesitate. Reverend started making them again a little while ago.

Strange that you are liking speakers modeled after old Fender blackface amps for high gain stuff. Whatever works for you! You're amp probably sounds similar to mine, which is KILLER! ;D

I use a JCM900 straight cab with 16 ohm Vintage 30s and 16 ohm G12T75s in an X pattern. Sounds fine to me. I have the bottom Vintage 30 over the 900 badge and mic that one at gigs.

Cool, you have a Pro Mod too? I see QR user in your avatar that's why I ask. I always wondered what those two sound like in an x-pattern.

Oh yeah- I should explain. After talking to Scott and enlisting a tech to do the job, I had a 22k resistor added and re biased the amp for KT88s-essentially making it a Pro Mod.

Thanks! I met quite a few of the members of this forum at last year's convention. Looks like this year's will be just as fun! I do like the KT88s better. Sounds like the lows are more "boomy".

Oh you were there? I have a terrible memory (my woman will vouch for that!). The lows are defintely more boomy! I run my bass around 10-11:00 and never anymore because it can be overpowering.

That is what I am having done to my quickrod too, only with 6550 tubes instead, a little less bass, a little more cut. -Brent

I put Tung Sol 6550's in my PM and I like it better than the KT88's that were in there. I don't really even notice any los in the bass, just a little more cutting in the mids.
