I know I want the Pro-Stock since I don't care for a clean channel. First does it have the same heyboer transformers as the Pro-mod/Quick-rod? I also want to know what power section would be best for my style? I play alot of styles of metal, but I'm more into early death metal, black metal and thrash. I know all Splawn amps have a shi*load of gain and that's not my concern. I just want to know what Power Section growls more and just sounds overall more aggressive? Just to give you an example of tones I like. Early Sepultura including Chaos A.D., Slayer ''Reign in Blood'' album. And Fear Factory tones pre Digimortal.

My buddy came over to rehearsal last night and brought his 7-string Ephiphone-V with EMG's. Hes all about the Engl's and wanted to hear the Splawn. He had himself convinced that he wouldn't like it. I have to say hearing the 7 string through the Quick Rod, even I was amazed at how heavy it was. Hes all about the death metal., Definitely not my thing, but it got his seal of approval.
My gut instinct is that the KT88's in the Pro-mod would be better, but those EL34's break up so nice too. They all use the same transformers now as far as I know.

I have both the MM trannies in my Pro Mod and the HB in my Quick Rod. I can say there is a big difference in the sound. The MM's are more articulate with alittle more sage like a JCM 800 and from what I'm told the MM's are expensive trannies. The HB trannies are closer to the old style trannies found in the older Marshall amps, they have a certain tone and feel that isn't as articulate as the MM's. Also the HB's are used alot in the boutique Marshall clone amps ie. Germino amps etc.. I think it is probably a cost thing of the MM with Splawn, and due to the success with the QR sales the pro mod is closer in sound and you can switch the KT88's to el34's and basically have a QR.

makes sense...I kinda figured with the transformer (more than meets the eye) change, you can get a QR, and if you wanna make it into a pro mod, a little biasing and new tubes and bam..you're there
