Hey guys, I just received my Quickrod the other day and the tone is great. I thought the amp would have too much gain for my liking but it sounds like a Jcm 800 with a footpedal pushing the front end....perfect.
My main question is regarding footswitch functions. The only channel indicator I know for certain is blue for clean. When I step off the blue no leds are on- what channel/setting is this? And could you explain the difference between the solo boost and od 2 etc...? thanks!
The amp sounds very close to my slash head. The clean channel on the slash head is louder and fuller and seems to have more high end shimmer overall in both channels. It may be that the Quickrod needs new power tubes. The clean sounds a little harsh so maybe the bias is not correct...I bought the head used and the tubes are original from 2004 (mullards). Does anyone know what the suggested bias setting would be? It is probably the same as a 100 watt marshall- usually between 30ma-35ma (conservitavely)...thanks again.

~ok, I think I have this figured out...LOL...there's two different gain 'channels'..OD1 and OD2...call them low and high, whatever...they share the same volume and pre amp (gain) knobs if I'm not mistaken..the middle button on the footswitch changes it..the lead boost controls, well the boost..lol...BUT, here's what I figured out..if you're in OD1, it goes into OD2 and the lead boost volume takes over..if you're in OD2, rythm wise, it stays in OD2 when you hit solo boost and once again, the lead boost takes over...either way you get a boost..but depends on what kinda sound you're going for rythm wise...if you like OD2 for rythm, you can still use that and have solo boost functionality..if you like OD1 for rythm, you're still getting a gain boost (which is the nature of OD2 anyway) with the added volume that you dial in on the boost volume knob~
this is how I understand the channels/foot pedal functionality..and I was proven correct by people that have experience with the QR
as far as the clean channel..do you have one with the shared eq? anywho, I doubt that after only a year you'd need new power tubes....dunno about the bias though...

Okay, thanks for the reply. I just checked the tubes and they are set astonishingly low (20ma for the highest tube) so I doubt the tubes are worn at all really... I'm going to bring them up to about 30ma and that should clean up the clean channel a bit. My head is the older format without the seperate clean eq. I've heard that these new mullard's draw very little current and most people are maxing out their trimpots in an attempt to get the propper bias...the stories seem to be true in this case! I'll drop a line after a rebias and test run. thanks.

Let us know the difference with the hotter bias!

Okay, it's like I said, the bias pot was maxed out already so no further biasing was possible!- these Mullards are not worth the money, maybe if your into high end audio or something- for rock amps I'm going with Svetlana all the way. They are always in spec and sound great in Marshalls. Anyway, I won't know the difference in sound until these wear out. BTW I spoke with Scott and he said that a good bias point would be 30ma for the Quickrod. He cautioned against a setting that would exceed that number especially if the amp is used at high volumes....
