i also agree that the bb/sb (25 or 65) x-pattern don't sound very much at all like v30s. the block speakers have a very neutral mid range, and a very wide "spread" in their frequencies compared to the v30, which as you know has a very prominent upper mid hump...it's very focused around that narrow range of the tonal spectrum. as a result the v30s are a lot punchier and in your face. the block speakers spread a bit more.
in my honest opinion, the closest eminence speaker to the v30 is the governor.

guess ill just have to convince them to let me order V30s in them Im sure theyll still take the business. if i had a different amp besides a dual rec id probably be more willing to branch out into an eminence.

thanks for all the input guys, i am getting a splawn cab with V30s. Just deciding on the colors now its either going to be orange with cane, black with cane, or black with salt and pepper. too bad they dont have black with red grille cloth once again thanks to everyone who contributed to helping me answer my newbie thread/questions.

Can't go wrong with orange! We just started with dialing in some guitar tones and started tracking some. Here's the current line-up against the wall: Not that it matters much now since you already figured out what you wanted, but we'll still try to get some comparison clips up as we start doing some recording. I just wouldn't expect it soon, because...well...we're a bunch of lazy b@stards... ;D

that would still be cool. and nice setups i went with a black tolex, cane grille cloth, white piping. kind of a vintage look im hoping. (think old bogners maybe). I owned that exact same 5150 at one point in time. But as i mentioned earlier I have the mesa dual rectifier now.

All I know is my 2 old V30 mesa recto cabs sound brutal and tight with my QR. If you like V30's in general I think you'll dig the tone with a Splawn. Honestly I think most amps sound better through a V30 loaded cab because it seems to gain clarity and tighten the lowend up. I know lots of you will beg to differ.

I think you have to match speakers to the amp voicing. A scooped-mid amp like a recto does great with V30s. A mid-heavy amp like the QR does better with greenbacks or eminence speakers that are less bright and have more even frequency spread. I have a DSL50 head that is kinda bright with less mids and sounds killer through a Mesa with V30s. My quickrod does not sound good through that cab. The QR sounds great through my greenback cab though. So, you have to match the cab/speakers to the amp voicing!

I have 2 10 year old recto cabs and they are killer with my splawn. The standard recto box and v30's make the magic. I've played the marshall sized rectos and they seem really bassy and that was the total opposite of what I would have expected. The mid range punch is key to stomping on a second guitarist nuts.

I love Hellatone V30s. I want to try the Small and Big Block mix. To me, the Small Blocks on ther own were too edgy for my taste. However, I do like Eminence speakers, so I should like them as they break in.
