I have my heart/ears set to purchase a quickrod A.S.A.P. ;D or when the boss says I am allowed. Strange thing is I have never even played one. I am totally drawn to this amp/tone based solely on the web/forum clips. Am I crazy? I feel a bit foolish because never have I been so sure about something that I have not personally witnessed. I typically shop,shop,re-shop & shop again before making a decision on anything but this......HmHmmmm I just have to have. I am wondering what your opinions are of matching the following cab/cabs with quickrod? I have both a straight back & slant 1960A/B Marshall cabinets. Loaded with ? I assume what ever came stock... clst/grnbk?? (these belonged to my father = purist) but I have never peeked. How can I expect these cabs to sound with quick rod?

buying a quick rod is always a matter of taking a leap of faith...because you can't go to your local guitar center and try one out...
that being said, i wouldn't have started this forum if i didn't love these amps 100%...(last night i was playing with the old style clean channel and it sounded great)
anyway, you really have nothing to worry about...i had the same concerns...when i bought mine there were fewer clips to listen to and my main concerns were a)is this thing going to sound like it does in the clips? and b)do i have to CRANK it to make it sound like that?
after talking to scott he assured me that this sounds just like it does in the clips and can be played at bedroom volumes...he was 100% correct. i'm not kidding, the second i hooked it up after it arrived i knew that this was the amp i was always looking for.
i've played the amp for other VH freaks and they just drooled all over it...i say this because i think VH tone is the most elusive MARSHALL tone to get and this amp does it better than anything i've ever played...exact...but, it does a lot more than VH...with a turn of the preamp knob i can get pretty much any sound i need....hell, last night i was rehearsing "brown eyed girl" with the clean channel and it chimed so well...i loved it.
...you really have nothing to worry about...best amp on the planet...i sincerely mean that...

I appreciate the re-assurance. Wish I could find one locally somewhere to try.

Hi,
I just got mine the other day and am pretty happy with it. I wouldn't say there is anything major special about it though. It sounds like a really good beefed up marshall. The sound quality is comparable to amps that are a bit more expensive like the roccafortes, bogners, soldanos, VHT's....etc. I bought mine to see how close it sounded to the old VH sound and it is close in some respect but I don't think its as rich of a tone as Ed's old recorded sound but then again nothing really is. Nevertheless it is a very good sounding amp.

the specialness of the quick rod is that it gets you the beefed up marshall tone at any volume level...it also has an effects loop/clean channel/2ODs/solo boost...try getting that stuff in any other amp that sounds as good...to my ears there's no better amp for VH tone...
