I picked up a 2007 Competition last week on ebay and I can hardly contain myself. It has a JCM 800 headbox and KT77s. I will post some pics upon arrival. Anyway, it will be my first encounter with a Splawn and the wait is killing me. The guy I bought it from is on the West Coast and I'm in Atlanta. Supposed to be here Thursday!!!

My competition arrived yesterday!! Looks too cool and sounds pretty good. I haven't had a lot of time to really get into it; about ten minutes this morning at low volume. I'll uncork it this weekend. In the past I've played a JCM 800, .50 cal plus, 5150 and a dual rectifier. It sounds nothing like the DR, which is a good thing and the reason I bought it. But its been a while since I've played through a "marsall" and I'm loving it. I don't get all of this nonsense about the QR and Comp being a "stiff" amp??? It concerned me before my purchase...Come to find out is has killer sustain, harmonics, attack and it even has some nice quality chunk when palm-muted!! I'm a drummer turned guitar player 20 odd years ago so I'm not the cleanest player out there. Let's face it I'm a hack! And I can attest that: Stiff this amp is not! I'm convinced that the folks who claim it is are the real stiffs!! If your a sucky player your gonna sound sucky on a ultra-modern, high gain amp or a fender bassman. Suckieness comes from within! So, I guess I don't suck after all!! ha, ha, ha

Sounds pretty good? SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD?! Feed it some decent alnico pickups and turn it up. It'll sound more than pretty good.  |

i tested it out with my "frankenstrat" loaded with an evh '78 pick up. I know, i need some more time with. 10 minutes ain't cutting it.

 Here she is!! The rest of the pics are in the pics section. I've had a lot more time to fool around with it and it's great. However, I'm gonna test some el34s and in a couple of weeks drop some KT88s in it. I think that's gonna be the ticket. |
