And I think it did change the tone - for the better. Seems to sing just a little better.
Anybody else notice a diff? (Besides Shreder - it's his mod).
Or is it just wishful thinking?

I think it's wishful thinking BUT if it floats your boat, rock-on brother ! I have however, seen this make a difference on a microphonic-tube though.

Scott's recommendation is that you leave the cover on the first tube on the left. V1. keeps noise down.

does make a tonal difference, but not enough to warrant the tubes being exposed imo.. since i run the amp with the back panel off so i can experiment with tubes/bias etc.

I had a microphonic pre in mine when I was checking my QR over to find a noise problem. The cover seemed to amplify it a bit. Also had loose pins in one of my power tube sockets which was contributing to it as well.A new JJ and a retentioning of the offending socket and voila! All fixed.

Sheer laziness combined with the fact that it's one less thing to deal with when I'm at a gig and a valve dies, has led me to not using the covers on any of the preamp valves in any of the amps I have ever owned! I have a box full of those metal sleeves!!

I have them back on again. In retrospect, not sure it made a diff at all, but it just "looks" cooler.
