On a new Competition. Black Tolex, Clear Lexan with additional piping around the opening. Sort of like Shreder's.
Should be here in time to put under the Christmas Tree. Thanks to those of you who've helped me with questions.

Yeah, and needless to say, I'm stoked.
I got the extra piping around the lexan opening, sort of like I saw on another post somewheres around here - it was a Competition also.
I'm not worthy since I'm pretty much a hobbiest, but WTH, you only live once.

Hey jammermatt, I ordered mine today but havent told scott what headbox design yet. plexi or clear lexan..hmmm...He said just let him know within 3-4 weeks. I felt a little not worthy also coz Im a hobbiest at the moment too. I was in a few band in the late 80's early 90's( 70 and 80's covers) Then the 90' music scene hit..eewwww! so our band done originals and demos till that fizzled out. Bands like Nirvana everywhere so I all but quit music and playing. Finding these amps have sparked me to playing again. And I dont care if I am only playing at home right now, I want some nice equipment!!.. And from what I keep reading Splawn is the best.

Acme, once I finally decided to take the plunge (it took 6 months of thinkin about it), the next toughest choice was the look. So many cool looks. I finally decided clear Lexan because it was no upcharge, and I could always put a new one on later. After staring at it for about a week on my wallpaper, I know I made the right choice. Those tubes glowin' will be cool

Did you go with chicken heads also like Shredders? White piping? My other amp has chicken heads and I like the fact that you can see your settings easier but I like the Plexi look also....AHHHHH!!

I went with the Chicken heads and white piping. I think the Chicken heads are just cool looking - they take up more space on the sort of sparse looking Competition control panel (only one channel's worth of knobs). There's a thread in the Splawn Photos section of a guy's Competition with probably the exact look I asked for. Scott should maybe dress up the Competition panel with a few knobbies or lights, or pictures or something. But I suppose some folks dig the simple look. Here's that link: splawnfans.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=pics&action=display&thread=1143557631

Man! That does look great. I'm starting to lean toward that look. I'm really looking foward to my Comp. The only thing that worries me is when some guys say its not very forgiving. Not that im looking for something to make me sound better than I actually am but I can play thru a modelling amp on a hi gain setting and fly all over the fretboard and sound good but I hate the tone on modelling. So synthetic, artificial sounding IMO. Atleat the ones Ive tried.

Well, I personally suck and make no bones about it. I currently play a modelling amp and am getting mentally prepared to have to take my playing up a notch - hell, two notches probably. But, I have a regular job so at least I don't have to worry about starving during this notching process. Might have to get a noise gate. That is a nice thing about the modellers that I'll miss - all the effects right there.

I thought about that too. It will make me improve my playing. I wouldnt say Im a overly sloppy player but definitely not sqeakie clean either. Im mainly talking soloing at very hi volume. In a band situation I feel Im decent coz everything is mixed and with a 2 guitars its no problem. But when friends see a new amp with such a reputation they will say Crank it and Jam!!.. HeHe And I wanna sound smooth and clear, not hear flubs and stubs.
