For the record CrueFest is maybe the dumbest thing I've ever agreed to doing and am regretting it with each passing day that gets closer to this event.. Its Vince, Mick and Nikki's official charity thing for their respective causes which you can see on their website.. We were a last minute addition..
Were all about doing charities,, we do at least 3-5 big ones a year so don't get me wrong I'll play a charity now and again,, but we agreed to do CrueFest under the assumtion that:
1) It was headlined by Dizzy Reeds (ex- GN'R) band 2) Another Nat'l fronted by Vinces sons band.. 3) We had "the good time slot" 10-12 or thereabouts.. 4) all the other locals opened for us..
So, I hear today the two headliners backed out and were on at 8:30 PM.. LAME.

Like i said I don't mind doin the free thing once in a while for a good cause.. These people organizing it are stupid though,, We told them to let us play 4 sets. We could headline and play from 10-2 and play all the crap the people who are paying to go wanna hear anyways, Crue, Ratt, VH, Ozzy, etc etc.. but the geniuses running it would rather limnit everyone to an hour set. Blah. I feel sorry for the band that plays after us.

craig, how do you handle the solos are those tunes?...do you improvise them or stick close to the recorded version?

For those tunes I stick very close to the records with a little added spice maybe,, For example the first Your in Love solo I play nearly note for note,, the outtro solo at the end is all improv. Same with Tesla, Dokken etc.. I usually stick the theme in there then do my own thing for the outtro solos.. Wait is perfect, I wouldn't dream of messing that solo up.. Hot For Teacher same thing but I don't play it exactly but sooo close most people that don't play guitar wouldnt notice and people that do would probably notice some extra shreddin' in there.
Basically my motto is,, if its really good or memorable play it like the record,, if its weak,, do your own thing.
