Well, I just sold off my Bogner XTC to order a QuickRod from Scott. I'll be looking forward to delving in to that tone bucket, and bouncing ideas and thoughts off everyone that's posting here. I bought that XTC 8 years ago, when it seemed like the only boutique amps were basically Bogner and Soldano. I live in Seattle, so Soldano seemed like a natural, but I kept hearing how Bogner was the best hot rodded "Marshall" type amp going. Well, I bought it, hook, line, and sinker. The Bogner is a great amp. But it ain't no Marshall. Even when I talked to Scott, he had similar thoughts to me, and that is that the Bogner actually has sort of a Boogie kind of vibe to it. With it being voiced down lower in the mids than a Marshall, it falls somwhere in that middle region ,feel wise anyway, between Boogie and Marshall. Well, anyway, now it seems like there 100 boutique amp makers out there, and after doing some research, it looked like the QuickRod was the amp for me. I love the voicing in Marshall amps. And I love tones that range from early pushed plexi's, to UFO era Shencker and Early Scorpions, to EVH (That goes without saying in this forum, I think!). Really, if I ever meet someone wanting to buy a Bogner thinking they'd get Marshall tone, I'd recomend buying even a used DSL Marshall, paired with a treble booster, and hotplate over the XTC. The DSL would have a lot more warts, (Bass farting out if pushed to hard) but for me, it still has more vibe than the Bogner. I have the feeling that I'm not going to regret dumping the old XTC for the Splawn! By the way, I wrote that guy selling the "Splawn" modded Carvin on Ebay. I asked him to explain the exact mod perfromed by Scott. I'll see if he replies. I agree with everyone that thinks that looks like a scam. Ciao! Brooks. angelahammontree.com/

Yeah, those Bogners just don't have the upper mid and high voicings that a Marshall has. I forced a lot of upper mids out of the XTC by using treble boosters and kicking in the treble switch on a THD hotplate. It got a great "almost" Jimmy Page live tone by doing this, but why should I have to run outboard gear on a $3,000.00 amp?!
Besides, I run the same gear on a Marshall DSL, and I find it to be way more inspiring than the XTC.
Well, 7 more weeks until the QuickRod gets here. Man, waiting around for a major peice-o-gear is one of the hardest things in the world for a guitar player to do!

Ha! O.K., It's posts like this that are gonna make the wait tougher!
But yeah, that's the greatest feeling for a guitar player. Pounding out some low E rythym, and having it feel like the notes are coming from inside you, and trying to rip their way out!
Hmmm, that reminds of some scene frome the movie "Aliens".
Anyway, thanks for the heads up, and for heightening the anticipation. Only 6 3/4 weeks to go!

Dude! I just introduced my singer to Re-Animator about 3 months ago! She loves grade-B horror flicks, but somehow missed out on that movie.I love horror, and it almost made me throw up! Your right, that's the sign of a good movie. --Or, at least darned effective art.
Hey, shouldn't I be talking about stuff like, "ripping filaments out of EL34's to get that Authentic Sonic Youth sound" on this forum?

I havent waitched that movie in years, wife wont watch it again! ahhahahahahaha.. she runs away when I mention it

Wow, glad to hear this. I have gassed for an XTC for a long time but could never justify the price. Now I am seeing alot of people selling them off for Splawns! Makes me feel like I am right where i should be with amps. I'm sure the Bogners are great amps but not $3000 great! And you are correct zappatista, you should not be adding outboard gear to an amp that expensive. The Splawn is just right out of the box;). hmmm zappatista....isn't that a Mexican revolutionary party. I remember it from RATM.

splawns friggin' rock =D
I played my buddy's xtc classic...it's a decent amp..no way worth the money, IMO....had to boost it to get it as tight as I needed it to be to be useful for me....
no boost needed with the splawn =D first and third gears are tight as hell! I find second gear to have more 'sag' if that's your bad too..
great great amp!
QR or Pro Mod, you can't go wrong with either

some of those 80's horror flicks were just great. Return of the living dead was great. When the two guys breathed in those fumes and they were dying while they were still alive. When she sits one of the guys upright and you hear all his bones cracking from the rigimortis that has already set in. Just priceless!!! Sorry to hijack the thread!! Hacksaw check out the Rob Zombie movies "House of 1000 corpses and The Devils Rejects" Pretty intense ficks!
