I've got a couple of rusty's instructional videos....they are beyond super fast. His alternate picking video has really helped my left and right hand really synchronize....even more than what I got from the Paul Gilbert videos. His music will appeal to the lover of fast guitar for sure... Patrick

The guys insane,, but oh his tone and phrasing are just awful. Reminds of another Michael Angelo. Lots of chops, nothing else... literally nothing else to offer..

the dude's a freak..no doubt about it
I'd take Michael Angelo over him in a heart beat though...cause while they're both of the same type (endless fretboard assaults to be quite honest.....but I wish I COULD do what they do...lol), MA's phrasing is much more interesting and makes sense..
this dude reminds me of shawn lane..who, while great and had some really innovative technique, just didn't make musical sense to me
I didn't think the tone was that bad..but I can't stand a guy who plays on his neck pickup 90% of the time..it grates on my nerves
and a word about arpeggios...they're impressive...but they seem to be used to make up for lack of phrasing alotta times...

does he have a big ego and say "I can play faster than you" like Michael Angelo does?

does he have a big ego and say "I can play faster than you" like Michael Angelo does? wait...wait...wait. I thought my Main Man Malmsteen (MMM) held the ego title? ;D

I'll probably get flamed for this but...... It's just my opinion.... I still enjoy Malmsteen very much.Ego and all he is one of the few who still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Some of the things he does are incredible,as are Cooley,Angelo,et al. I think Yngwie sets himself apart with his phrasing ,vibrato and tone. To me these are what makes him unique.Yet I know some will say he is repetitious, and I agree, sometimes he is,but he is still one of the greatist original guitarists ever. I think the big difference, and the thing I like most, is that Yngwie, (and Paul Gilbert and others), are "better" to me than guys like Cooley , etc, because they are more melodic and musical. I'll take Michael Schenker,Pat Thrall,Gilbert,Yngwie... over Cooley and such anyday. Yes Cooley and the Gang are technically better, more proficient, and efficient,faster,etc...but in the end baby it's gotta rock !......

LOL.. I remember when Yngwie came to usa.. opened for AC/DC or someone like that in the 80's.. Yngwie played his ass off.. and everyone stood around like.. what was that?!! I must of been the only guy ROCKIN my *SS off in the entire place when he was jammin.. he did set the world on its ear..
Black star era.. oh ya..
I enjoy listening to his older stuff. I just wish he would stop doing some of those cover tunes..
Axemane.. nice tag line LMAO

I agree about Yngwie,, no comaprison. The guy has amazing vibrato and phrasing, as good AS ANY "BLUES" player. Gilbert too, very musical and easy on the ears. Can't stand Michael Angelo he doesn't have any redeeming qualities that I've heard. I listened to some more Rusty Cooley on MySpace and his arpeggios really aren't that clean. Also he has no left hand vibrato, its all whammy bar vibrato,, which sorry,, is just GAY.

YJM's an amazing player..there's no doubt about it...
I just think that after listening to ANY solo/instrumental guitar player after a dozen albums or so they start to get samey..
that being said, you can't deny the fire and originality he had on his first few albums..the songwriting/leads/feel is just friggin' incredible..

I've never been a Cooley fan. There's a time and place to play fast. He does it all the time and I agree with Craig. Whammy bar vibrato is the gayest of the gay!
