"the splawns are TOO TIGHT" to pull of the early VH tone LMAO...
most ludicrous thing I've ever heard...
one thing these guys don't understand is that ALOTTA guys get that early EVH tone from ALOT of different amps....splawns, marshalls, hell, the guy from hot for teacher uses a rectifier...
heheh..'too tight'....an amp can't be too tight..it can be too sterile..but not too tight...maybe they like mush? hehe anywho, I guess they never heard Al Estrada play

that's kind of short-sighted that the Splawn doesn't get the EVH sound...I find myself playing (or trying to play...) like Eddie does because of the amps 'percussive' nature...I use very low gain PU's and it still gets pretty fat for a Rodded Marshall type amp...I am upgrading my PU's and in some cases I kick in the Fulltone OCD when I want to sustain a note to oblivion....but, If you listen carefully Eddie has a decent amount of gain but a very controllable amount. Most of Eddie's sound is attainable mostly by his approach to the guitar and his hands/attack of the instrument....that's why he sounds like "Eddie" whether he plays a Peavey or a Marshall or ?? If you can't get there with the Splawn QuickRod, the problem isn't with the amp.... it lies elsewhere! CHECK YO' TECHNIQUE BRO!

CHECK YO' TECHNIQUE BRO! you're spot on dude...hell, even scott himself told me 'you'll only sound like EVH if you PLAY like EVH'..which is so true... that's another thing nobody takes into account..the PAF style lower output pickups that he always used..never used something as hot as a JB or a duncan distortion..so that's got alot to do with his clean and open overdriven sound.. I told them, go back and listen to the lead from On Fire where he's hittin' those percussive palm mutting lines and they're just thumpin' off the neck...that's TIGHT tone right there....
