so, as you know I got that EBMM petrucci offa ebay..great buy! here I'm like 'hey! I'll get the petrucci, then I'll unload my axis! it's in great condition, just about mint..has JB/Jazz set, which in my opinion sound alot better than the stock pups they had in there...the top's friggin' gorgeous..the birdseye maple neck is slick as hell...
and what do I get? 'you still got the stock pups?'..no, I have better pups in there..'well, it's modded..how about I low ball you'...or 'well, I was really looking for one with teh stock pups'..yeah, but these are better...last time I checked a pup swap wasn't a MAJOR modification...some people swap pups in the same guitars so often that it's a wonder they ever actually get to play their instrument...
so, moral of this story is I got a great newish guitar and I'm stuck with a MINT Axis, with GREAT pups.oh yeah, and I'm out a grand too....
hey, if anyone every needs any advice on how to lose money, just pm me...I got a million tidbits for you....I should write a book...
rant over...but I still hate people =)

i think it's just the act of selling...anytime you sell something you're bound to lose money on it...unless you got a great deal on it initially...don't worry too much about it...

I'm tryin' not to...but I'm seriously gettin' fisted on something that's barely used..and it's making me physically sick...

don't hate people Matt, hate yourself like I do,, LOL. We fall into that sucker club of "buy whatever Eddie played" and then realize its a piece 'O poop and move on,, LMAO.
Like I said in another a post,,I'M DONE WITH PRODUCTION MADE GUITARS. I hate them, they suck. Nobody is making anything good anymore and resale is horrible on everything. Get a custom made axe and keep it for life.

LMAO I do have to say that I'm in love with my petrucci..especially since I lowered the action to my liking...the attack is just screaming now...which makes me kick myself in the ass (if I could) for ordering teh damn steve's special pup...meh, I'll probably just return it =D anywho, I think I'm gonna try my luck on ebay...see what happens...

I think what you're seeing here is a couple of things: One is that unfortunately the resale for EBMM stuff is not so great. Most gear has bad resale value if you buy new. I like my Axis (but sometimes the smallish neck and frets bug me, I go back and forth) but I know if I ever sell it I'll only get $700-$800, and it's near mint. I paid close to $1500 for it new with case I've seen alot of nice Axis's go for less than that.
That's why I rarely ever buy new, you can normally turn over a used guitar for around what you bought it for if you're smart.
The other thing you're seeing is that those pickups are kind of sought after because you can't get them anywhere else, so it makes the guitar more appealing to alot of folks. Remember, guitar players are SUCKERS for stuff you can't get, as if unavailable/out of production = amazing.
Hang in there, it won't seem so bad down the road. You'll eventually find a buyer.

Nobody is making anything good anymore and resale is horrible on everything. Get a custom made axe and keep it for life. Actually keeping it for life is the best idea if you can get a guitar that's magical, custom made or not. I found mine a long time ago, an '86 Jackson strat style (San Dimas era), that I'll never part with. It's fairly beat up now so I don't know what the resale would be, but it doesn't matter as I'll never sell it. I did order a Rio BBQ pickup for it, should have it today. But the guitar itself it just magic. I shudder to think what would have happened if I'd never lucked into that guitar way back when. That guitar showed me what a "great" guitar is all about, as opposed to a just a "good" guitar.

Good for you on the sale! Can I ask what it went for? I hate to say it, but if you need good coinage for something you'll be lucky to get it off a board listing. I've never sold anything that way. I'm not a huge Ebay fan, especially for buying, but I'm always able to sell my stuff there. I'm never looking to rip anyone off for the stuff I sell, but by the same token I usually need a fairly good price and I'm rarely disappointed.

Hey,
Don't feel so bad. I just tried selling a mint 60's reissue strat body on ebay the other night. Its the Mexican body but as far as I am concerned its just as good as the american. Anyway the averege price of these bodys on ebay is around $150. In fact the same exact body I was selling sold for $180 last week. I have seen a few get up to $250 depending on the day and the color. So I start my auction at $.99 for 3 days and with 2 plus hrs left the bidding is $31 with like 25 people watching. At this point I am thinking OK what gives? So I said F---k it I refuse to sell it ridiculously cheap so I had my boss bid on it with his account. He ended up wining the body at $76. I will never figure people out as long as I live. I am also currently trying to sell a warmoth neck on there also. I started the bidding at my min and of course no bites. Then I see a warmoth neck on there sell for more then it costs new!!!! OK we have some real winners out there. Do your homework people

I got 1050 for it..highest I got offered off of a board (after MUCH ball busting ) was 830 shipped...I knew I made the right decision not to take that low ball offer...'oh, but it's this and that'...nice guy and all, but I knew what I wanted, realistically...

Do your homework people hahah..yeah, some people just don't know...I named my price after looking at a history of complete sales...what they went for..how old they were, etc, etc.. I knew people wanted the original pups...but since I thought they sounded like sh!te I replaced them...more for me to shell out..but I knew that I wasn't going to recoup all of that..but it's cool...someone knew that the duncans smoked and didn't give a crud about the crummy stock pups.. if I didn't see it goin for around as much I wouldn't have set such a high BIN price...
