Hey its 4 AM, and I just got home from the Fozzy show. It delivered the goods as promised by Tree. As my Shipyard Ale/IHOP buzz wears off I'll try to recount the evening....
I get there and as promised I had not 2 but 3 of the hottest chicks possible with me,. My wife and 2 of our extremely fine friends Christine and Denyse. Both of the latter being big Chris Jericho fans. Me, I had no idea who that guy was, so I went to see a guy play a Splawn and hang out with Brian (Tree).
I get there and I'm walking around the club and this big insanely tall guy comes up to me and says "Hey Dirrty Craig!", I'm like YO MAN!. it was Tree, now I know why they call him Tree cause I'm 6'1 and this guy makes me look like a midget. He recognized me from the Splawn site.
So we were hangin out and talking about all things Splawn and our mutual love for Mr. Scott and his products. and then the shows getting ready to start...
Trees' playin' triple-duty as tour-Manager, roadie and Sound Engineer. He definitely had his hands full and he was on top of everything. This guy is a Pro in every sense of the word handling just about everything at once and still finding time to hang and talk with me during mixing.
So the show starts and I was slightly dissapointed to see Rich Ward playing a 5150, but he WAS using a Splawn cab so I forgave him on that. He told me later he was waiting on Scott to finish him up a new head... so he had to suffer with the 5150 in the meantime. Super nice guy, super friendly and a really good player. He didn't play any lead, but his rhthm playing was tight and solid. Hes got that whole Zakk Wylde thing going with the low E, and A string pick harmonics. He sounded good and was also a great vocalist. His tone was nice and thick with that Les Paul punch.
This other guy though, was a real shredder type. Man that guy had some great chops. Tree said his name was Mike Martin I think. He was playing a Petrucci guitar through a Peavey Triple XXX. Fantastic guitar player, but the tone was pretty weak. His leads were blazing though, I can totally see the John Petrucci influence, lots of super-fast double-triplets and 5 string arpeggios, and some nice Greg Howe-esqe tapping. He played all the leads. If it wasn't for Tree's great mixing his sound would have been lost. I walked up stage side and the sound coming out of the cab was real thin and all high-endy, but Tree got a great mix out front. Tree is the MAN.
So after the show Tree was kind enough to give me 3 backstage passes for my lovely entourage to meet Chris Jericho. They were thrilled and thanks to Tree's generosity I was the star of the night with the girlies. ;D
Meanwhile me and my drummer Robin were talking to Rich Ward. Rich is a super cool guy and had alot of nice thigs to say about Splawn.
what a great night,, i need to sleep this one off...
