Hi , its a 3 position rotary knob lets you choose between low/medium/high gain .There is a slight bass increase also with higher gain . The voicing is the same . JB

1st gear= low input (vintage plexi) 2nd gear= high input (splawn high input) 3rd gear= more bass and gain than 2nd gear
It's the same thing as deciding whether to plug your guitar into the high or low inputs of a Marshall. This is not the channel switching, it's the different input options. You only have one input to plug your guitar into (but have a 3 position rotary switch to choose the input) instead of 2 like the older Quick Rod or 4 on a Marshall plexi. Which ever input you decide to use, you still have clean and dirty channel with a solo boost.

Does anyone know how long the wait is and the cost of the 3rd gear mod? I might send my PM to get it installed.

hey, I'm new. I'm needing to get a new amp that is more suitable to my style, I play a mix of warren haynes and zakk wylde. I've got a marshall jcm 900 sl-x, and a peavey triplexxx, and they don't have the bottom and midrange that i want, I've played on mesas, diezels, marshalls, orange, and alot of other stuff, and just can't find what I'm looking for, so i figured i'd check into splawns, and this would be the best place to find out.
