I'm considering either the new Pro Mod or Quick Rod.The problem is, I want the older brown sound/80's metal sound BUT I also play higher gain metal. For those of you that have played both, if I go with the QR, will I be able to get into higher gain tones without pedals? Is the PM able to do the brown sound using lower gain settings? I'm still researching these amps and don't know too much about them. The next thing I am going to do is check out some clips to get a better idea of the differences. Any help is appreciated.

Hey bro,
I think the QR has PLENTY of gain for newer Metal sounds. Backing off the mids and using the OD2 has a very Metal sound that works for any Metal style I think. The amp has so much bottom that it sounds as heavy as anything else without losing that killer brown-ness.
Not sure about the Pro-Mod going the other way. I told Scott to send me one when he gets caught up. There really aren't any good Pro-mod clips anywhere that I've found that show its versatility.

I'm leaning towards the QR now because I already have an Engl Powerball for high gain sounds. It does a good clean sound but the in between overdrive/distortion isn't what I'm looking for. It's still my favorite amp but I want an amp that can do the lighter gain tones really well. Thanks DC!

I wasn't logged in when I posted this. That's strange, because I didn't know that was possible.

Dude, if you have an Engl Powerballand plan on keeping it you should definitely get a QR. If you need more gain you'll always have that if you need it.
My buddy Thor the guitarist from archaic reign (http://archaicreign.com/) uses a powerball and he loves my QR. We play together quite a bit. He would be a good guy to ask about this, as he has played through both.

I'm most likely going to go ahead and order a new QR this week. Most of the clips I am hearing sound like what I'm looking for. Thanks again and I am going to check out your buds site.
