It seems like there are only a few Pro Mod people who still have theirs and then everyone else is selling/trading theirs for a a Quick Rod?? I am trading my Rivera KHR with kurtsstuff for his Pro Mod and I will be the third owner in 3 months. Is that not a good idea?! I know the PM will suit me better than the Rivera but I can't help thinking I should be saving for a Quick Rod. Someone please instill(sp?) some confidence in me and tell me they love their newer model PM and that I am getting a killer amp!

People get caught up in the new hot thing and always want the latest and greatest version. Far as I know the QR and the Pro mod are the same circuit, just the power transformer and type of power tubes is different. The QR is less expensive and it uses el34 tubes which is the popular tube for that marshall sound. I would guess they sound similar being I am one of those people that believes different power tubes makes that big of a difference in sound. My naylor head has 5881 power tubes which are like a 6L6 and you would never know it by the sound. If you can get a good deal on a pro mod take advantage if the splawn is what you want. Why pay $1750 when you can maybe pick up a nice used pro mod for around $1000? I was just testing out the new Fulltone OCD overdrive pedal into a Dr Z route 66 amp which is virtually a clean amp and it sounded amazing! Every bit as good as any Splawn amp. Some of these new botique overdrives out today offer a great option then spending a fortune on a head that has enough good sounding gain on tap. I test out and listen to new gear all the time and the options are endless.....

here is the difference,,,,the pro mod as a clearer tone kind a like my engl had,the qick rod as a more dirty (vintage) tone kind a like the old super leads(the mids have a different taste or vibe or color if you like) im very anuss (LOL) about my tone and my pro mod sounds great but for me the quick rod as a better vibe... but its all in the power tube section i could just have mine modded to take el34 but there are no thec's anyware near were i live...

Splawns seem to have a great resale value esp. when they have all the latest options (gear mod/clean eq). I really just need a good sound for an important show coming up, something I can be happy with and inspire me to play well. I am so anal about tone that I can't play well if something feels off. I was never a fan or had any luck with using distortion/overdrive pedals though. I like to use the amps distortion because it just feel so much more natural. I only use a disrtion pedal in band practice because I use an old Sunn solid state head that doesn't overdrive that much and I hate the feel of it.

So you own a Quick Rod now? You confused me on that one I never really played old Plexis or Super Leads so I can't make that comparison. The only Marshall I owned was a JCM900 and they were very different then all their previous amps. Well, I am pretty sure that I would like the Quick Rod best as well but I guess right now I am getting a good deal and I will have to deal until I get up the $$$ to order a QR!

Looks like someone may be having second thoughts?? Thats cool! Believe me...if I did'nt have so many other amps that basically do the same thing..I'd be keeping it. I've just always been curious to check out a knucklehead and see what they are all about. The Pro Mod is a very modern sounding amp and if your doin the drop "D" thing...there's nothing out there better for that. If you'd like to hang on to your Rivera (donaldemon) I'd have no problem with that and I'd make someone a killer deal on the Pro Mod at $1550.00 shipped in the lower 48 Hey Kurt, I just sent you an email. Deal is still on!! You know those last second thoughts always come into play. I like modern but I don't really do the "drop D" thing all that much. Someone told me the amp sounds like Tool. Is that true do you think (if you even listen to them)? Hopefully not the last couple albums because the tone was rough sounding then again the whole record is just mixed and produced poorly. Anywho..I'll be packing your amp. Later.
