I finally got me a guitar w/ P90's.
Rondo Music in NJ is closing shop and blowing out some gear. Well I went last night and returned with this:
AL-3000 Gold top w/ P90's.
There was 2 3000's left about 6 2000's but I wanted the nicer trim on the 3000 model.
It was a difficult decision becaue the 2 Al-3000 were very different even though they looked almost identical. One was about 1/2" thicker on the body and weighed more than my Les Paul! It had a distinctly warmer sound which was almost identical to my Les Paul.
The other one was about 2 pounds lighter and had a more hybrid single coil/humbucker sound and just had that P90's grind Iwas looking for. The only problem was that it had a few issues. There was a small dent on the back of the body, the pickup selector was a bit loose and crooked and there seemed to be more buzz than the other ones.
Anyway I went with the lighter one for 2 reasons. One, the other one was too d**n heavy! I play a heavy Les Paul and it still felt like it was 50 lbs. Two, the sound on the lighter one just killed. It just had this spanky mid thing that I loved! I think if I get a good set up and replace the wiring/electronics it will be a sweet guitar.
All said and done, I got the guitar for $185 and the HSC for $50. Can't beat that deal. Plus, my woman said it will be X-mas present.
