Been a while since I've been on the board. Just curious to know if any of you guys have tried out the Carvin V3 head?
The amp has some super nice features but I have read mixed reviews on it's sound. I have been to the Carvin site and listened to the clips, I don't think they are bad but just wondering if anyone here has tried one and wanted your opinions.
Thanks!

well, I dont have much faith in anything carvin myself, I would venture to say that for the money you'd spend, you would be better off finding something else. But thats just me, and Ive been known to be wrong on occasion (once or twice, TOPS!!!) LOL

For those of you wondering if I like my V3 Carvin head? It RIPS!!! This is the best $800.00 I ever spent and sounds killer! No fizzy, buzzy type sound like what some people say! This amp smokes everything in it's class and then some! It's a tone monster, If someone can't dial a tone they love on this head they should hang it up! seriously.

I don't know if this is possible...but, how would you compare it to the Splawns? Any clip-age available?

.... No fizzy, buzzy type sound like what some people say! . Nobody has to say it, just listen to those clips... ewwww. Man, I mean the guy doin the clips is good but even he can't get rid of the top end fizz coming out of that thing. To me it sounds like theres an entire spectrum of the EQ missing based on those clips. If I had 3 of them I'd sell them, buy a Quickrod and use the remaining cashola to take Dorothy Mantooth out for a nice Seafood dinner.. and never call her again.

I'm not knocking any Splawn, I had three of them. The splawn amps are great if all you want is a hod rodded Marshall tone with a subpar clean tone! Don't get me wrong, I still love the tone of a Splawn but for my gig I need Versatility. Now I have a Marshall type sound, Mesa type sound and the clean channel is superb! Not to mention the fact that it has 2 effects loops which are assignable and midi, half power and can use either EL34 or 6L6's. It was well thought out and has all the bells and whistles.
Come on Craig, any player out there that judges a amp based on clips on the net should not bad mouth it. You of all players knows there are so many variables when recording. Yeah you're right SOME of the clips on the net don't sound that great but I didn't judge the amp based on that! I took a chance and it was well worth it! Different tubes do make a difference but I think you know that. Also the EQ on this amp is the best I have ever used! It is very effective!
Quickrod $1850.00 Carvin V3 $800.00
Now I can take $75.00 and send it to you so you can at least have a nice steak dinner!

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Carvin convert on this forum anyways. Anything electronic Ive ever seen Carvin produce has fallen apart rapidly, power amps, mixers, crossovers, cabinets etc. I built one of the carvin strat kits for a buddy after he bought it, yeouch!!!!! good for kindling, or maybe to beat someone with, other than that it was useless, but it was cheeeeap!!!! LOL Im not knocking you fretburner, if you like it, thats great, enjoy it. This just seems to be a pretty tight brotherhood here, and very opinionated( biased im sure) Ive been through the wringer with amplifiers, old marshalls, new marshalls, rivera's, hughes and kettners, bogners, laneys, top hats, valvestate marshalls, crates, fenders, you name it. My Quick Rod has the most organic, "real" guitar tone Ive ever had, sure the clean channel isnt a blackface twin, how could it be? its an el-34 amplifier. What it does, it does incredibly well, its all meat and potato's. Everybody hears thing a bit differently, some people require more saturation, some need to scoop, some want straight ahead vintage rock tone with hair. Obviously the QR is not for everyone.

I don't know about the entire world wanting that sound, Sure I did at one time and had it! I suppose if one wants to play classic VH all night or have just that one sound than yeah the Splawn is the way to go. I still love the tone of Scott's amps! Also, I'm not trying to convert anyone here as I was a member here before you and realize how the guys feel about their Splawns. I'm Just stating the amp is very nice for the money and worth checking out if someone is in the market for a reasonably priced tube head. I as well as you have had many tube heads through out the 29 years I have been playing included all the ones you mentioned and more! I see your new here, How long have you had you Splawn?

Jeeesh thats totally inaccurate. I host a jam-night every Wednesday.. and 90% of stuff I do is blues-based, SRV, Hendrix, Zep, lots of clean and dirty-clean sounds.. The Quickrod owns on all that sh1t. With my '71 LP Deluxe, I can get classic Joe Walsh grit on the clean channel, switch guitars and 3rd gear and hit the first 2 Pantera albums and everything in-between including an excellent VH sound. The Carvin sounds like an excellent bargain... it literally sounds like a bargain.

I haven't heard any clips online that have impressed me...Splawn included. But, I have heard the Splawn live and in person and it is a face melter for sure...gave me GOOSEBUMPS! Yeah, Baby! ;D Fretburner, enjoy your new amp. New gear is always fun! I used to have a Carvin X 100b and I really enjoyed it's clean channel...lots of headroom. It was great for me at the time because that was the phase when everyone had to have a cool pre-amp in their gear arsenal. Mine was an ADA MP1, and through its clean channel...I thought I sounded pretty darn good. I eventually got rid of the Carvin as getting it serviced was a real pain. Nobody local was really compent to work on it...so, that meant shipping the thing back and forth to CA....which got old fairly quick, and you know how rough UPS, USPS, Fedex can be on packages. May your amp live long and prosper! Can you send me $75 for a steak dinner?
