Gibby LP Custom VS. McNaught vintage single-cut...
Any experience, thoughts or opinions on tone, playability and such.
I've got two LP standards, one which I dont play much... got a hair up the south end to make a move on an LP custom, but got side-tracked on a McNaught VSC.

I've got two LP standards, one which I dont play much... got a hair up the south end to make a move on an LP custom, but got side-tracked on a McNaught VSC. When Scott was really into retail I had the chance to checkout a bunch of the McNaught guitars he sold. I really enjoyed the McNaught experience. The looks, sound, and feel are all exceptional....so is the price tag. My experience with Gibson has been hit or miss...some have been incredible, others just mediocre. I guess it comes down to the fact that Gibson is in the manufacturing business and McNaught is just a guitar builder. You get what I'm saying? If it were me, I'd add a McNaught to the collection. Happy shopping.

i would have to agree!! the days of picking up any Les Paul and having it play like butter is over! i have a '68 custom re-issue flame top (butterscotch) and the thing plays like a dream but on the other hand i have played some other Les Paul's(non custom shop-and custom shop)and have not been blown away by them.they have never been horrible but not worth dropping Les Paul cash down for either. i haven't tried the mcnaught stuff but i did visit the site and it looks like he is in the same boat with Scott.it is just a matter of building guitars in small batches vs. making 1000 a day!! i think you would probably be better off going the mcnaught route if you are going to buy without playing it first since you probably will find the mcnaught stuff is more consistent, but on the other hand,if you have a place to go that has a bunch of nice les pauls that you can sit down and play for a while that in my opinion is the way to go since NOTHING SOUNDS LIKE A PAUL!!!

Thanks guys...
Ended up getting an alpine white LP custom. It was a return that was messed up. Guy only had the guitar for two days but managed to lose the pickguard also, gave it some worming marks with buckle rash on the back. That employee should've never taken the return... No biggie, I'm gonna gig with it and enjoy playing it. and yes... its one of the "good ones".
