I almost hate to ask here....
but what is the word on the POD XT? Can you coax some decent practice tones out of it?
Thanks,
Patrick

Practice tones? Sure.. Honestly though I got one of those little Korg PX4D's and its even better. Has a tuner, metronome, drum machine and tons of amp models. For sitting on the couch and jamming in front of the TV you can't beat it and I think its cheaper than the POD.

I just bough the PODXT and I am waiting for it to arrive so I will give you a review. I needed something to jam on when I am in my apartment late at night. I have heard nothing but good things about them so I shouldn't be dissapointed.

the thing I love about the Korg PX4D is the built in drum machine with rhythm patterns and bass lines. You simply pick a rhtyhm set the bass line key and tempo and bam your jamming with a band. Great improv practice tool without have to use a Pc or other crap.

I bought some backing track CD's to make up for it. Hopefully I will be able to run them into the POD with headphones. I had a DOD FX7 and it was the worst sounding POS ever but the only cool thing it had was a 1/4 jack to plug in a radio to jam along with.

some of those korgs sound pretty decent actually..i had a guy put one in the front of my old tube amp at a show and it wasn't bad..it was a little ice picky though..maybe I shoulda turned off the bright switch on the clean channel for him? lol
anywho, i think those things are great for headphone or quick recording uses...OR a backup to go direct if yer tube amp should go down for whatever reason....I woudln't gig with one though

I got stuck at a gig in Marco Island back in '99 or so and my 5150 died on me. I had one of those Zoom 9000?? whatevers for practicing in the hotel room.. and had to finish 3 nights of a 5 nighter with that thing run direct into the PA. It saved the day, but sound like poop.

I used to use a zoom 9030 through my crate half stack..lol... I think I might still have that zoom at my mom's house....

hahah Rockman X-100 hahah.. anyone remember those?
The best practive amp I have used.. for low volumes was my Tech 21 Trademark 60 with G12T-75 Celestion.. with a Keeley mod DS-1 and dd-3 in front.. sounded like dog poo when turned up, but at low volume.. it did very well.
the POD Pro ( 2nd generation) was very cool with headphones..

I had a POD XT Pro for a short time. They are great for practice / recording by yourself but playing live with a band it doesn't cut through and sounds VERY sterile. Nothing will ever replace the sound & feel of a thumping tube amp!
