I bought an Edwards Flying V that came stock with a Duncan 59n, Custom 5 bridge. Here's my dilemma:
The guitar is more resonant than any guitar I've ever had...I would think that would be a good thing, but truthfully, it can get out of control when pushing volume through the amp. (The guitar just wants to sustain forever...and succeeds quite nicely.) The Custom 5 is where I'm getting hung up...the guitar has a natural, "woody open-ness" to it, which makes the lows on the Custom 5 a little loose sounding. What pickup (given my current description) would you all recommend with this guitar?
My real problem is that I'm not used to such a "vintage" sound...my Les Paul has a BBQ in the bridge and my Singlecut has a WCR Fillmore...you'd think they'd be the epitome of vintage...but this V really stands out.
By the way, I bought the guitar from a seller in Japan...this Edwards was setup beautifully!!! The fit and finish blew away my expectations...I was so giddy when I got it (it arrived 10 minutes before my practice) that I broke the rules and played it as is in rehearsal. The guitar slayed...it plays itself. I could really learn to love this tone...or hate it...you know, like that fine line between brilliant and psychotic?
What do you all think?

Ooops, forgot to mention that...it's mahogany with a maple cap...not sure how thick the maple is or if it is veneer. The guitar is definitely bright, which leads me to believe that there is some substance to the maple, but I could be wrong. I've been thinking about the custom custom...or a BBQ.

That's what I thought...the BBQ sounds absolutely killer in my Les Paul (I took out the WCR pickups in that guitar for the BBQ).
I have a feeling this guitar will be really picky about what p'ups are in it...the thing is crazy resonant...and the sustaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnn just goes on forever.

Thanks, I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts. The tone this guitar is giving me is awesome, but I'm just not used to it...know what I mean? I pulled out the Custom 5 last night, put in a WCR Herc, then immediately took out the Herc without ever playing it (put the C5 back in). I figure, let me put some time in with it and see. As it is, the guitar currently has a very vocal quality to it...I've got a gig tomorrow night (opening for Stephen Pearcy), so we'll see how it goes.
