Its starting again. I think I want a new guitar! ;D I only have 2 (Strat and Les Paul) and I am satisfied with both but I think I want something new to play for a change of pace.
I was thinking along the lines of PRS but I really didn't like anyone I played. The only guitar I really fell in love with was the Tom Anderson Cobra but I can't drop that much $$$.
Any suggestions for something in the medium price range ($600-$1200) that has good quality and sound? I am not a fan of shred guitars (DUH) like Jackson, ESP, etc. Nothing retarded flashy but more vintage looking. I have seen some decent Ibanez but I think they're sort of cheap feeling.
I am looking for humbucker or H/S and a straight thru neck with tremolo bar (or not). Hamer, Schecter, EB???

Don for the medium price range check out the Carvin custom shop. You can get a superb axe in the $1000.00 neighborhood. Go on their site and put one together, you can choose different options, woods, etc,, and get the price right there..

what do the Mansel's run? One of my favorite guitars that I play all the time at gigs is my 52 telecaster. If you can find a good one, they're tons of fun to play. That's kind of off from what you're describing Don but if you've never played one you should. Change out the pickups and you can go from country/blues/rock/jazz/etc. Very versatile guitar.

My good friend ordered one and it looks really great and plays decently. It just doesn’t sound the greatest. He also bought a bolt on do-it-yourself kit that came out looking like a nice strat for cheap. Thanks craig, good suggestion!

Mansel's are big beans! I think around $2400 right? A tele has always been on my list and everyone I played I really enjoyed but aren’t they a bit twangy for heavier rock? Maybe a pickup change would help. They also have many different versions as well, some with singles, HB’s, etc. I was kinda of looking at something other than Fender or Gibsons. The real use for this guitar would be practice and jams because I probably will stick with what I have for live shows.

I've changed the p/ups in mine to a Dimarzio (virtual vintage) in the bridge and a Dimarzio (Twang King) in the neck. The virtual vintage has the mids and bass increased and the treble decreased. Basically backwards from what a stock tele bridge p/up comes like. I still get that tele pop when i chickin pick through a deluxe but the p/up also sounds great through the splawn. Twang king in the neck has a really bluesy feel to it. Also sounds great on jazzier tunes with the tone control rolled back a bit.

I paid $2,060 because I added the new GraphTech String Savers.
