I've heard those are best higher gain Marshalls made. I was looking into one but I just don't trust their reliablity. Did it sound like your amp at all?

Did it sound like your amp at all? you know...it sounded a little like the quick rod... it did have a little more gain than my non-3rd gear QR...as far as stock marshalls go i really liked it...if i can find a good one for a fair price i may snag it...it did a really good lynch sound...think "in my dreams"...but for EVH type stuff it didn't sound as good...

I owned a Jubilee for many years. In fact I bought it back in 88 when no one really new much about them. I noticed right away It sounded more creamy/warm then then the JMP's and JCM's I was used to hearing. I never thought of It has I high gain amp though. I used to use a chandler real tube overdrive with it and it sounded great with it. Compared to some of today's amps it is a little thin sounding but still a nice sound. I think the splawns have far more gain on tap then the Jube's do. My marshall days are over but I do like that little 2061 handwired 20 watt head. Just a great natural sounding overdrive. Waaaaay to expensive though.....

I think that's what the marshall rep at guitar center was tryin' to sell me on after I told him about my splawn..poor bastid...didn't have the heart to tell him I think all his products are way overpriced =)

Shredder,
Yeah, its the new handwired piece. Its a cool piece but they run about $1800 new. Thats tooo much for a 20 watt amp with virtually no features even though its hand wired. IMO that amp should not be priced more then $1200 compared to whats out there today.

I think even 1200 is too much for a 20 watt amp..that's just damn crazy....

If you look at the botique amp market most PTP handwired amps that are 18 watts are between $1400 and $1500 new. Sounds crazy but people are buying them. When I talked to scott he admitted if his amp line was PTP handwired they would be priced considerably higher. The splawns though hand made are not PTP hand wired and thats how he keeps the cost more reasonable... I would think if the QR was PTP handwired it would be around $2500 which is about what the Hi-gain roccaforte's run.

I wonder, does anybody know how his amps are wired? Does he use circuit boards, etc? It joes goes to show that you don't need the boutique "qualities" to make a good sounding amp.

He uses circuit boards but no transitiors or diodes for gain stages. The gain is all from the tubes. The pots and tubes are mounted to the chassis for stability. Very solid amp but not point to point wired on the board itself even though it is everywhere else in the amp.
