...in a coverband, that is! I need to get a second job and I figured playing music would be the best way if I can swallow my dignity and play stuff I HATE. Well anyway, there is a band auditioning guitarists that is managed by S.T.A.R.S., the same company that has The Nerds and other popular coverbands. Only problem is that it look smore like a full time thing rather than a couple of nights. These guys are booked 4-6 nights a week. I'm not sure how it would work out but I figure it can't hurt to audition and see. Anyway, I have a list of songs I need to learn. How do you guys do it? Do you try and find the tabs or do you sit and spend time trying to figure out what is going on? I don't have much time so I would have to probably take the shortcut and use tabs. Another problem is that I have no home computer and no way to download the songs. How do I get around that other than buying 50 different CD's. Here are the songs I need tio learn for the audition: Rebel Yell - Billy Idol Mr. Brightside - the Killers Megalomaniac - Incubus Muse - The Hysteria The Beautiful People -Marilyn Manson Sugar We're going down - Fall Out Boy Till the day I die - Story of the Year Helena - My Chemical Romance Walk- Pantera I actually like some of these songs. I am not happy about the Fall Out Boy, Nickleback, Bon Jovi, Good Charlotte and many others but I guess that's part of the deal. Any suggestions from you coverband guys?

what's the name of the band? 4-6 nights...wow well, there's only 2 ways i know of learning tunes..1) tab....2) figuring the song out by ear...if you need to learn those in a short time i'd suggest you find the tabs to them...considering that most of that stuff is homo/new stuff ;D...you shouldn't have a problem finding the tabs. go to www.tabcrawler.comi found this to be the best site...now, you also have to remember that these tabs on the internet are done by kids and they may be completely wrong....but it's a start

dude, are you joining Disasterpiece? LMFAO...we used to play most of those songs..
anywho, I always learn songs by ear...always have, always will...outta laziness and just havin' a pretty good ear...
I know of STARS...that's one of the reasons why the band I was in and the band I AM in don't bother with managers...they want you to play all over in God's creation, many times a week..and that just won't fly with my work/home situation..that and they kinda own your soul....now, being sponsored's another thing
BUT, being managed is the only way to really make big bucks or get alotta bigtime places to play..at least in my area...
FWIW, I was never happy about fallout boy either..LMFAO
as far as gettin' the songs, I use limewire..but not havin' a computer really limits your options...you COULD get limewire at work, download them on lunch and burn them to a CD, or have a friend do it for ya..
and wow..NINE songs for an audition??? man, that's alot...

Another site is ultimate-guitar.com but like Vom said, some can be way off. I use tabs as a guide between them and my ear. Luckily for me I still have almost every issue of Guitar for the practicing Musician from around 1984-1990. Then while I play them I dont care its it note-for-note (like Mark Walburg in "Rockstar") .. Like to make it my own without going to far out.

I would play in a cover band. Not a problem for me. However, they start rolling out that emo crap and I am out. ;D ;D ;D

However, they start rolling out that emo crap and I am out. ;D ;D ;D in all honesty, i'll play anything that gets girls up and moving...to me, coming from a party band standpoint, that's the whole point. that's how you get invited back to play places or get put on rotation at some of the better bars...you have to get girls moving. if they're moving to "jessie's girl" etc...fine by me...so, if those tunes get girls dancing, i'm all for it...that's my barometer...

nothin' wrong with that 80's stuff...jessie's girl, 867-5309, pat benetar, heart..I love all that stuff actually..and it's fun to play
but there IS a problem playin' what's the pop song du jour on WPST (in my area anyway)..cause that emo crap? well, 12 year old girls dig it..something my old bassist never understood..sure, they sell alotta records..to primarily teenagers...how many teenagers are in a bar after hours? NONE!!!
