I voted for Eddie yesterday. It was a tough call because I really love Jimi and what he did in his time. But EVH was way more influential to me so.....................
It looks like it is gonna be close.

It really doesn't matter at all... If they said C.C. DeVille was the best rock guitarist it wouldn't change how I feel, play, or the music I listen to. Best Guitarst.......best at WHAT? Best Song Writer: Jim Croce, Dave Mathews, Mellisa Etheridge, Robbie Robertson, Bob Dylan...anyone else who sold a ton of records. Best Technique: Yngwie, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Eric Johnson. Most Influencial: Eddie VanHalen, Ace Frehley, Randy Rhoads. ....that's the probelm with these poles...where do guys like George Lynch, Jake E. Lee, Angus Young, Alex Lifeson, Warren DiMartini, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, DimeBag Darrell, Zakk Wylde, fall into place. Can someone honestly say that Eric Clapton is a better guitar player than these guys? ......better at What??? Hell, if I would have made up that list, it would have looked completely different to begin with.

a vote for evh is a vote for that school of playing: lee/rhoads/lynch/etc...
those guys would never make an MSNBC poll...ed does, and that's the beauty of sir edward...

I somewhat agree with Craig about Duane Allman. Personally I feel Warren Haynes is twice the player Duane is/was. Not just from an Allman Bros. standpoint. His Govt Mule stuff kicks it!

Sorry, no disrespect to eddie but...common...SRV. To me no one will ever match the sounds that guy could get out of his axe. I think he took hendrix's technique & perfected it, then added to it. I mean eddie could & still can shred up a storm but once the tapping is gone I don't feel alot of his riffs are that solid anymore, last solid EVH riff I heard was "don't wanna hear what love can do". But then again...I am a Van Hagan fan & think that Lee Roths voice sounds almost bad as his hair looks now-a-day. So while I love Eddie for his influence to modern rock & shred, I am going to say SRV hands down for actual best guitarist. Personal opinion. -Brent
