I gotta say,, Greg Howes newest CD "extraction" is phenomenal. Thats one guy who honestly has never put out anything bad ever, he gets better and better. ..and Scott Henderson is better and better too. I think (depending on the level of the player) you can always put out something that's tasty. It just takes some serious time and thought to do so. Maybe some of these players lose their spark that they once had and become disassociated with the guitar. Writers block can drive some people mad. another thing is the endless cycle of writing, recording and touring... I've never really recorded anything but I know people who have..one buddy of mine (bass player) who's original band (back in the day ) opened up for kansas and a few other well known bands was like 'dude, when recording you get so sick of your own material it's not even funny'.. let's face it, to some after awhile it's a job...and we all know work's a dirty four letter word =D

Not really, I'm just continuing something I started 10 years ago and quit when I was touring and playing 5 nights a week plus teaching 5 days a week,, no time then. I got the time now. Sure its different but its always been there for me I just never had the opportunity to pursue it like I do now.

I think you're totally right Shred. You think about it. All those major hits that Johnson has, have been being played for almost 20 years or more. I've got bootlegs from way back when of him doing Camel's night out years before "Venus Isle" came out. Same thing with "Righteous and Cliffs of Dover" It's kind of like "Eruption" Eddie never did anything remotely close to matching that level of raw playing since that recording (imo) After a certain point the well does run dry. It's hard to keep reinventing yourself. yep..a few DO seem to have an endless bag of tricks..namely steve Vai....that being said, I don't like those tricks...lol..insofar as song writing anyway..he's too out into left field for me... satch hasn't put anything interesting out in years, IMO....no idea what's goin' on in lynch's head either these days.. but you're right..after playing for THAt long and recording so many songs, WTF are you gonna do? quite frankly, I think nuno blew his was on pornografitti..never heard so many licks, leads, fill ins and overall guitar wizardry packed into one CD before =) or since.. Pornografitti is at the top of my list. I actually quit playing guitar for 4 years cause I wanted to be a professional baseball player (LOL). I picked it back up again after hearing "Decadence dance" That guy's playing is over the top!!!!! He-man woman hater just kills in the riff dept. and solo dept.
