Thats from the Van Halen Tribute CD. Reb Beach does one, Doug Aldrich does Im The One, and coolest one is Dweezil Zappa doing Unchained!

I think YJM has a pretty damn good tone on that cut...the rythm's very brown!

Ouch, it actually wasn't too bad. I love Yngwie but he just doesn't have the rhythm chops to do much VH. Have you guys ever heard his version of Mr Crowley with Ripper Owens on lead vocals? LMAO... its hilarious,, he doesn't even attempt to play even one Randy Rhoads lick,, its just Ynwgie all over the place...

what was it about his rythm playing on this that you didn't like? I thought it sounded good

It sounded very Yngwie. He's a great player. However after the first 8 bars of his solo it's like Yaaaaaaaaawn!!!!!!!!!

Man, I get so tired of being the odd man out sometimes............that was Yngwie? It didn't sound like Yngwie to me, especially the tone. I really love Yngwie's tone, but this recording sounded like standard humbuckers, which is cool but not Yngwie. I also didn't hear a bunch of arperggios, did I miss them? ( I only listened once real quick at work).
Somewhat off topic, but I ever get my butt organized I'll get a clip or a vid of my QR with my YJM strat, I found some settings that do a pretty good YJM type tone. I don't use that setup as much as my standard humbucker type tone, but it's fun, they're 2 totally different vibes. If that strat had 22 frets I'd use it a hell of alot more, I'm so accustomed to using that 22nd fret that it sometimes messes me up with only 21.

No way dude, your not odd-man out,, I f'ing love Yngwie. I just think the guys incapable of playing any type of swinging 1/8 note feel. Its just not his thing,, He just doesn't have that old VH funk factor required to pull it off. Having spent a fair amount of time with both styles I can safely say..lets face it Eddie couldnt play ANY of Yngwies licks,, LMAO.
I've been eyeing the YJM strats for a while, but that scalloped neck is just a little over the top for me. I play way to hard with .010's to deal with an all scalloped neck.

The link didn't work for the yjm vh tune. What's the album called, I'd really like to get my hands on it. As far as the pic goes.....Yeah cancer'll do that to yah, as well as having a un healthy life style. Being a chain smoker for yrs doesn't help much. I still love the guy no matter what. He's proved himself for yrs. He doesn't have to prove anything anymore. I think, regardless of what he does or doesn't do, people still know who he is and talk about him, no matter what shape he's in. Now that's being famous. So, I think he get's the last laugh.

I agree, Yngwie's playing style is best suited to Yngwie type music. I didn't think that VH tune was bad, I was just surprised tonally it's didn't sound like Yngwie. I always recognize that Yngwie tone in a nanosecond, but not here. I love that tone. On the YJM strat, I think if you're a heavy handed player you'd have problems with the scalloped neck. I've always had a very light touch, so it's not a problem for me even with light strings. I like the scallops, either that or extra large frets and I'm happy. The YJM's a cool guitar as long as you remember it's always going to sound like a strat.
