My theory, from what I can tell.. watch the thumb, I think its feeling markers on the top of the neck where the dots usually are ??, which would be the only place where your thumb would always stay in place?

That could be but....hmmmmm....overhand the thumb is on the right
underhand the thumb could still feel, but on the left.
Either way...still smokes huh ?
