Anyone ever listen to Avenged Sevenfold? They are a metal band that has been around a few years but now have their first major release, "City of Evil" on Warner Bros. I gotta say that is some d*mn sick guitar playing on that record! I haven't been impressed with a 'new' bands guitarist in a long time but that dude rips!
I just bought their album before that and it is quite different. More screaming and chugging riffs. Not as impressive guitar playing. Either that guy was holding back or he did some major practicing (or someone else played for him!).
Anyway, I am going to see them April 9 so I will see his true skills or not. If you like Maiden, GNR, aetc. you might like these guys.

Yeah they do use those ghey names. Synyster Gates is the lead guitarist 's name I believe. I definitely recommend City Of Evil though. Though the singer's voice can get annoying after a while, the guitar and drum work on that album just kick @ss! There is that one song "Bat Country" that has been on th radio alot. You may have heard that if you play the radio.

I think Bat Country is a great tune. As far as the playing goes its light years ahead of whats happeneing right now,, so more power to 'em. For us old skool guys though its no biggie. 4 string harmonized arpeggios played at a moderately slow speed,, but it sounds way cool and fits the tune perfect. Its nice to hear the kids busting some sh1t out. Check out Trivium for some of the best kid guitar metal right now too.

Yeah it's definitely nothing new but then again not much is anymore (except Radiohead ;D). It definitely stands out because no one plays like that anymore. I'd have to say metal is the only new music with some kick @ss guitar playing going on. I just can't deal with the cookie monster screaming for too long. It just gets boring. I bought Avenged album prior to the new one and it is not as good because he screams alot. He actually sings in City Of Evil. Bat Counrty is a great song and its about one of my favorite authors, Hunter S. Thompson!! I'll have to check out Trivium.

Dude check out Nevermore.. buy the cd "Dead Heart in a Dead World" The opening tune will smack you in the head like a sledgehammer and theres another tune on there that has the coolest melodic harmonized arpeggio thing on it,, That guy Jef Loomis has great feel and vibrato ad sick, sick chops. No death metal growling either, the guy actually sings.

I've heard snippets of Nevermore before...and from what I remember, they didn't give me a chubby...BUT, I'll give them a more definitive listen next time I come across them because of your recommendation, sir~!
