Yeah he got morbidly obese there.. ouch. Still though, I mean lay off the twinkies and play dude, why kill yourself? I mean look at Leslie West that guy was HUGE and he lost all his weight when he got to be like 50 or something. Its never too late.

I have never been a Shawn Lane fan. Plays way too fast and his tone was always extremely wet. I bought "Powers of Ten" when it came out and tried listening to it several times but was never able to get into it. The Rhode Island guy is who I was talking about Craig. That guy is friggin nuts! It's a shame that Lane is gone as I can respect his technical abilities. Gatton was a true monster on the guitar. Some of his stuff just makes me shake my head.

I could be wrong MAtt. Thats what I remember hearing when it happened.
Thats the one I have TJ,, "Powers of ten". Its almost unlistenable.. I kept it because ts long out of print I think now, they may have reissued it though.. it didn't do anything for me at all. Guy had incredible chops though for sure.

I find that's a problem with alotta music like that...all that jazz fusion stuff (I don't know how else you'd categorize it)..guys have amazing chops and technical abilities, but like you said, craig..unlistenable...no groove and alotta it is just SOOOOoooo out of left field that I can't make sense of it...

Thats why I always like Scott Henderson and Greg Howe for that style. Total funky groovin stuff with a real blues/rock sensibility. Howe tends to go outside but not so much that it becomes annoying. Hendersons 3 blues records are just outstanding with a bit of jazz/funk in there too. His Tribal Tech stuff can get out there though.

I know of scott henderson but never heard him actually play.. greg howe's a fantastic player...he knows WHEN to go out...and doesn't stay there indefinetly....so it really has an impact when he does do it...

Henderson is a great guitar player. You should check him out Shred. I think you'd like him. A guy who I really like that none of us ever talk about is Michael Lee Firkins. That dude can flat out get it. His whammy bar/slide technique is so cool.

Yeah man Firkins is a bad mofo. I had the pleasure of jamming with him, Vinnie Moore and Brian Setzer at a guitar show a while back. As bad as those guys are, Setzer completely smoked everone,, LMAO.. it was hilarious how good that guy is.

I'd love to own one of his signature guitars. I've got a live DVD of the Cats in Europe and it's so cool.
