My band opened for Stephen Pearcy on Saturday night...what a show!!! As I was getting ready to head onstage, several people asked about my amp (the bright red really stands out)...most never heard of Splawn. (I knew that there would be at least one other Splawn on stage that night. ) Knowing that a national act wouldn't be "quiet"...I figured the sound guy wasn't about to tell me to turn down, so I took a little more liberty with the volume knob just to be sure that the Quick Rod left a lasting impression that evening. I recognized a few promoters and club owners in the crowd...plus I knew several guitarists buds of mine were there (one works in a large guitar shop here in town...the HOG). Well from the opening chord of the show, the Splawn was just unrelenting...the leads just seemed to bloom off the fretboard...and the best part, the crowd really dug what we had going on!!
After we got off the stage, quite a few people asked me about my amp...it was really cool to point up to the stage as they uncovered the rigs for Stephen Pearcy's band and lo and behold...2 SPLAWN RIGS!!!! Erik Ferentinos (who I thought used a Pro Mod) had a Quick Rod and Frankie Wilsex had a Pro Mod...d**n did they sound nasty together. For anyone wondering what sounds better than a Splawn, I now know the answer...TWO!!! Seriously, a Pro Mod paired with a Quick Rod is just unfreakingbelievable!!!!
As for Stephen, he was spot on all night. He played all the classic (and well received) Ratt tunes, then threw in some Aerosmith and Led Zep to boot. Toward the end of the night he asked the crowd what they wanted to hear and a few voices shouted out for Arcade...he replied, "If we do that, you better sing along..." and then he obliged.
All in all, it was a great gig...and the house was packed the entire evening!!! The show had it all...it was loud, rude, crude, and even had a little debauchery, complete with a nice cat fight to end the evening!!! (Nobody was hurt...and I still don't know what prompted the women to go at each other.) What a great time...if Stephen comes through your neck of the woods, I'd highly recommend checking the show out...it will be well worth it.
