they did a song called Voodoo Queen which was basically Mean Streets.. but with totally different arrangement and vocals.. Hang 'em high was "Last Night" which was a great tune,, They had a song called "I Wanna Be Your Lover" which was way too good to not be on the first album.. so much awesome stuff they could remaster and release.. but those pesky VH brothers hate the fans so it will never happen. (shameless stab at Vom)

If we ever get anything from Van Halen ever again, I want to hear some remastered unreleased stuff. Especially from the first album. You know that there has to be alot of songs out there that Eddie has hidden. The 6 DLR tunes would really be something to hear. I want to hear a modern Eddie just rip the heck out of the guitar! I still like Me Wise Majic, Can't Get This Stuff No More, and Humans Being. I feel like they were really headed in the right direction before all the crap went down!

Humans Being was from a movie correct? I believe it was "Twister". I am not really a VH fan but I love that song! A friend of mine had that song on the soundtrack album and he used to play it often. I haven't heard it in a while.

I really like listening to all those old unreleased VH tunes. To me, it's like a glimpse behind the curtain, you hear all those signature fragments of tunes (Mean Streets, that horn siren from Running with the Devil, etc), except in totally different places and/or totally different tunes. Kind of shows that although what we "know" as the final product, seeming so perfect and all, was always a work in progress and what REALLY seperates the men from the boys is putting all those pieces together into a whole tune that sounds like it was all born to go together. That's genius to me.
On the studio outakes, I also get a kick out of how you can hear when Ed's using a different setup vs when he's using his own. I don't know that he actually "is", but there's a huge difference on some demo tunes where you can tell a mile away it's that famed plexi thing, and then other tunes his tone sounds really generic and dry, run of the mill.
With the live boots.........I don't know man, THAT'S what rock n roll is all about. On fire, for sure. Booze, volume, hot chicks.........there really is nothing better for rockin and rollin.

I have alot of that old VH unreleased stuff and bootlegs. It is my favorite VH actually.I really can't believe how good they were back then in the mid to late 70's! I think they were "on fire" and I think Ed was actually better then.More hungry, faster, and way aggressive.... You can download quite a few of their old boots and stuff at this site www.guitars101.com/vb/f62-van-halen-bootlegs.html. Most are mp3's .Very cool stuff indeed.

me wise magic was a great song....wasn't that around the time they were thinkin' of havin' DLR come back (I remember him showing up on the MTV music awards with them like he was in the band again already or something)..and then...bam..nothing!!!
Don--yep, humans being was from Twister...and if you'll notice at one poitn in the movie, the orchestrated score does the same riff that's in that song right before the song kicks in....as they're driving frantically to catch up to a tornado....now THAT was cool!

I agree with Axeman.. VH was a force to be reckoned with from '76 to '79 live. Some of the best guitar playing i've ever heard is from those boots, and DLR really peaked in around '79. I have one thats real common from Fresno '79 where Dave is just doing these insanely awesome screams and hitting these high notes in Light up the sky... oh he was awesome back then too. In fact if you listen to any of the '79 shows DLR was literally ripping the roof off with the power of his voice,, and it makes you realize why he lost it so young.. cause he gave 110% live.
Also, the unacompanied solos from the 1980 tour were insane. That was the tour Eddie came up with that slap stuff for Mean streets. If you listen to a few of those shows cronologically you can hear that technique evolving into what was recorded in '81.
