hey c'mon, veerybody knows who Django is, john Williams, Mclaughlin? Ok Grant Green may be somewhat lesser known to non-jazz enthusiasts... but in perspective he was amazing for his time. I just can't lump rock guys separate from jazz guys etc.. its against my policy,, LOL. I think a good player is good regardless of style or popularity or record sales... and a bad player shouldn't use the "well I'm a rock player" as an excuse for mediocrity... not that you did that, I mean rock players in general tend to do that... which makes ALL of us rock players look lame to the 'serious' musician types... and it shouldn't be that way.

But that IS rock music! Say F* it and just rock, no contrived technical masturbation! Who are you trying to impress, other dudes playing guitar? Its like the bodybuilder who gets so huge that chicks don't even find him sexy anymore so he is really just impressing other dudes bodybuilding . Hmmm the snakeskin, tight pants, long luscious hair, I don't know sounds like C*ck n' Hole more than Rock n' roll to me ;D ....LOL just kiddin brudda

That!...now THAT is really GOOD!!!...I tested this out with a number of friends and every one of them picked the simple riff thingy...all this to say: just because WE may be impressed with something doesn't mean that our audience likes it...and MOST of the time they DON'T! last time I saw Holdsworth in a small bar in Orange County (CA) there was about 12 guys there...I wasn't happy playing that crap anyways...now, I'm about feel, rhythm/melody and passion...everything else is a waste of time to me...by 'Old School' I meant simple hard rock...before the wanking stunk it up...

I love simple rock too, and its probably 90% of everything I do. But I like to do other things, not for musicians or guitar players but for myself. Growth is important. When you stop growing as a musician something happens,, something bad. I just don't want that to happen to me.

I agree, I play alot of acoustic guitar...especially nylon/classical...it's like a different instrument...whole different 'visualization' of the fretboard...I also do a lot of open tunings that are very strange to open up chord voicings and melodies...Dave Matthews has some cool rhythmic stuff Hedges etc...mostly I like to experiment myself...that's what our heroes do... BTW: I hope you understand that a little 'payback' is in order...there is a time to turn the other cheek...this ain't that time...gonna take some pondering though....
